That is the problem with Anon posting, some States and

even counties still have blue laws. Without knowing where the Anon poster is there is no was to really give them a decent answer.

Re: That is the problem with Anon posting, some States and

Even though PA has Blue Laws on the books, they have been dramatically rewritten in the past 20 years and one can conduct mortgage signings on Sunday! And, yes, PA is a commonwealth - not a state....

Re: PA blue laws

I remember the days when on Sun alcohol could only be served in Pitt, Harrisburg, and Philly at hotel restaurants where 50% of the business was food.
Also, remember joining the Devon Bocce Club, a private club, so I could get a drink on a Sunday. As a side, I actually learned how to play bocce.

Those days were college days and just out of college days.

I am in PA and you would be correct. Pennsylvania is a Commonwealth.

Re: commonwealth

There are 6 "areas" with the designation of commonwealth -
Pennsylvania
Kentucky
Massachusetts
Virginia
Puerto Rico
Northern Marianas

This used to be a great bar bet question...

Back in the halcyon days of my youth, I would often break the ice with groups of comely Ohio State coeds at campus bars by challenging them to tell me how many states comprised the United States, turning a deaf ear (and blind eye) to the many answers of anywhere from 48 to 52. I would then reveal the correct answer as 46, since four of the "states" are actually Commonwealths.

This won me many drinks (and an occasional date). For you younger fellows, it's best to wait until they've tossed down a brewski or two before trying this. Smiley
