Telemarketing alert!!!
Cell phones have now been released and made available to telemarketing companies. In some cases the telemarketing calls can deplete your free cell phone minutes and even cost you for those who are charged for incoming calls. You can call 1-800-382-1222 from the phone you want blocked and set your phone up to be on the do not call list or you can go online at www.donotcall.gov and get set up. Make sure if you go online that you respond to the e-mail message and click on the link sent to validate your phone number.

I'm pretty sure this is one of those internet urban legends.

Thanks for that Roger, the alert came from the National
Association of Realtors. Of course with the Realtors it still could be an urban myth.

Actually Roger an apology may be in order!
Taking my published compy of my realtor publication I hastily went to the site of the Federal Trade Comission and they say that is not the case and may never be the case. That's what I get for 1. Believeing my colleagues and 2 for passing on things I read. I'll now go crawl back into my corner for a well deserved time out.

Yes and no. Cell phone directories are not being made public to telemarketers. Yes, you may still get telemarketing calls on your cell phone, simply because of their demon dialers.
You may want to check out the Snopes "Urban Legends" page on this topic: http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/cell411.asp

Sorry guys, it came from a professional publication
I have always found them to be credible. I guess you can't trust anyone anymore.

Re: Sorry guys, it came from a professional publication
It's not a matter of trust. I have found both issues in technical trade magazines, forums and conferences as well. These legends seem plausible and are accepted out of hand by many people in positions of influence. That's where the problem is. Whenever I hear something that sounds a little fishy, I check it out at Snopes and snoop around the internet. Chances are if smells fishy, it is.

Yep yep, it's a fact! I got two of the bloody things yesterday and it's some sort of automated message, sounds just like a live person but by the time you figure out what's going on you've burned up 2 minutes. I was beside myself! TY for the info...heading there right now!
