Wireless Satellite

Does anyone use wireless satellite on the road and if so, how do you like it? Is it worth having? I'm not talking Blackberry.

Re: Wireless Satellite...Becca

Ya, good question Beth. How much is it? I have wireless in my house and I love it but I'd love to have it on the road too so I don't come back to 30 messages after just a couple of hours. :( If it's the same as what good ol' cable does, I think I'll have to check into that.

Do you ever drop service or is it just as good if not better than cable?

I think this is the service that's recommended if you wish to go completely mobile.

If my cell phone has a signal, I can access the internet. Now, most of the east coast of Florida has broadband service available, with the exception of the county that I live in. I am told that my county will be up to broadband speed w/i 4 months. I can still connect in my home county however, the connection is about 56k speed.

I figured what the heck, the main reason for getting wireless internet was for when I was outside of my home area. I'm also able to access the internet offshore on the boat. It's great to have such quick and accurate weather reports while sailing.

Check out VerizonWireless.com for coverage in your area. Just be sure to give them my cell phone number when you connect, I get a $10 referral credit.

lol, thanks. Will do. One more quick question; Do you have to buy anything extra or is a wireless computer adaquate? I guess I can just go online and look or go to my local Verizon store here.

I think being on a boat and being able to answer questions over email just solved my whole decision!

Re: $59.99 per month

You need to purchase a wireless card. Mine cost $179.00, but it had a $100 mail in rebate that I received in no time.

Re: $59.99 per month

Thanks. That's not bad.

Can I just use my current laptop or does it have to be a satellite laptop like the Toshiba's?

Santa is coming this year. ;)
