adobe

I opened up my netscape and was able to download the adobe reader from there. How ever when I try to open up the files I still get the same message , file is damaged and couldn' not be repaired. Does it make a difference which browser you download the adobe from.?

Should not matter. It is just file transfer process. Simply copying data to your drive. Then under windows, it has a wizards to unpack and install the file. The browser should not matter.

Perhaps the file is damage. One way to check would be to upload to an email account. Download it one another computer and see if the file will open. If you get the same message on two different computers, chances are the file is damaged.

File may not be damaged, but made with a high revision (v7) of Adobe Acrobat or Distiller or some PDF file maker. I have found that more and more facilities have upgraded to Adobe v7 and are not making the files downward compatible. (When you make a PDF file, there is an option as to which minimum level is acceptable. By default, the version is v7 if you are using the v7 Acrobat.)

If you are in a hurry and need to get a file printed. upload the file to a hotmail account and go to your favorite computer store, Kinkos, access your email account, print and close the loan.
If you can, be sure to delete the file off the kinkos computer to protect the borrowers confidential information.

Alternatively, launch excel, create a file with the same name with a pdf extension and save over the other file, it will ask you to replace the other file. Say yes and it will in pretty much wipe out the file with the borrowers data.

Otherwise:

You might try launching in safe mode and checking to see if you can launch adobe. If you can, you might have some type of registry conflict. They can be difficult for novices to solve.

Also, are you sure you can run the version of abode you want with your currrent computer and widows?

If not, have you tried installing an older version of adobe? Say adobe6?

You can check some of the tech boards for problems such as computercops.com etc. Sometime, they know of conflicts and patches that the need to be installed, such as, being sure you have installed windows sevicepak2 or or other things.

Not sure if you uninstalled it properly. Did you use the uninstall wizard as oppsed to deleting files manually? I would try to uninstall with the wizard and then do a search and for adobe files in window exploxer such as ado*.*. If you see any remaining files, you might try deleting them there.

Next, try downloading abode again. When the install wizard, suggests a subdirectory such as windows\programfiles\adobe7 change the last part to something else such as abobe2006
then continue the install.

When you try to launch it next, click the icon with a right mouse click and check to see that the icon is referring to the new adobe2006 location.

Or, do a search in windows explorer for adobe.exe and the try to click and launch it manaully without an icon.

Try those thing and post back.

Thank you , sounds like you are a computer whiz??
I don't even know if I know how to do all of that. Like I said my computer is only about three weeks old.

Do you have microsoft office? You may not have excel so the suggestions Anonymous gave may not work for you. I agree with installing an older version. Do you know which version of windows you have? Try installing and running Adobe6. If your registries are corrupted, you will need a computer geek to help if you've never worked with regedit and such. I am sure you have a warrantly of your computer so you might want to check with the store you bought it from as well. Good luck!!
