wam bam thank ya ma'm ...

SS calls and I have the vacuum cleaner running. I called back in *exactly* two minutes according to the time display on my phone. My pet peeve -- why does a SS call, give details of signing in a voice message and then immediately call the next person on the list as soon as leaving the message? Why not wait 5 minutes before trying to place the order? Why leave a message at all?

I dunno, maybe they want to show you what you "missed?" Doesn't make any sense to either.

Here's the way our business works!

You don't answer your cell phone they go to the next notary on THEIR LIST!!
I got called in Calif this morning at 6:45 am from PA . and there must have been some interferrence with my cell and I called their number back in 15 seconds and the job was gone.

You want to work in this industry keep your cell on 24/7 if you are available those hours. Your lucky anyone left you a call back message!!

Re: Here's the way our business works!

If they have no intention on waiting for a return call for just 2 minutes then there's no point in leaving a message. They should just hang up and call the next one in line.

Re: Here's the way our business works!

Exactly my thoughts. I know how they work - Carolyn does too...the point is that the message left is a PITA. I return all my calls asap; I seldom miss a call...but, I'd just soon they not leave me a message to waste my time or theirs if they don't want to hear back from me.

Re: Here's the way our business works!

I think they are just hedging their bets and trying to maximize getting it assigned before the next ss. If the next person they call isn't available, or they don't get through, I suppose there's a remote chance you might get lucky with a callback. OR, they are just on automatic pilot and aren't thinking about what they are doing. Hmmmm I wonder which one is more likely!! ;>)

Think About It

They call and leave messages because they may not get any answers on any of the aubsequent calls they make. If they don't leave any messages and get no answers, then they have to make the same calls again and leave messages!

Re: Kelly and Joan

I understand perfectly well out the biz works, thank you. The point still is - the wasted time of leaving the message re time/date of signing, type of signing, etc. if they have no intention of waiting for a call back within a few minutes. BTW, these are the exact companies that schedule the signing with you and then continue placing calls for the SAME signing until they find a CHEAPER SA. Great way to run a company, huh?

Think I'll grab my cell phone and change my VM re call back time schedule and for them just to hang up if they have no intention of waiting a minimum of 3-5 minutes for me to return their call. Works for me!

Re: P.S.

Why is my time, or any of our time, less valuable than that of a SS? I say SS because I've never encountered this with any of the TCs I sign for. I understand how orders are filled, but don't leave a message for a call back if they have no intention of waiting a *minimum* amount of time for the call back!

Sorry. It just hit a nerve -- first, the SS and then both of you explaining the biz to me -- I have been self-employed since 1992, so I'm not exactly green when it comes to business practices.

Re: P.S.

Its just one of those irritations of our jobs...if we don't call back then we risk getting a rep of being non-responsive. If we do call back we have to deal with the agony of defeat or the offerings of a $45 signing, burned minutes and a slightly disturbed peace of mind.

I really like to keep my peace of mind in tact. Smiley

Re: P.S.

I know what you're saying Brenda, but I guess this month I'm just not into the EOM el-cheapo companies who begrudgingly meet my fee, only to call me back to cancel because they've price shopped and found a recent NNA graduate who will do it for next-to-nothing "just to get their foot in the door" so the SS can keep more of the pot to themselves. So in actuality, I guess the original post was a combination of many things that set me off.
