ATTENTION INDIANA SIGNING AGENTS RE: LICENSE

I have spoken with the Indiana Land Title Association (ILTA) today. There is NO LAW or regulation requiring Signing Agents to have their Title Insurance License. The Indiana Department of Insurance has been working on a "bulletin" for 2 years regarding all people doing closings must be licensed. According to ILTA they have been promised something in writing since August and still do not have the "Bulletin". Also, the deadline will not be January 2006, since it would be impossible to license thousands of people before that time. I also questioned them as to why they are not getting the word out about this possibility, i.e. THERE IS NO INFORMATION ON THEIR WEBSITE ABOUT THIS REQUIREMENT. According to the ILTA, they are only responding to what the Dept. of Insurance is telling them. The Department of Insurance will tell you it is a requirement, but again, they cannot give anything in writing. I am looking into contacting someone to investigate fraud charges against these organizations.

Thanks Elizabeth for the warning. I have not seen anything about this anywhere! Jan Z.
