Anybody had purchased refurbished brother printers?
I saw a refurbished hl5150DLT in the web for 159.99 and I lost a signing today because of not having dual tray printer. But I have my office full of low tech machines. I have: hp1000,hp3015,HL1240,HL5140 and now a possible HL5150dlt? I print all pdf"s files with the hp1000 and all pcl required files with hp3015 or my hl5140.
Thank you for your responses.
Now go to sleep! Today is last day for RTC loans. Good Night!

I have never purchase refurbished. If you have office max in your market look there. They many times put old models on clearance. I purchase a Brother 5170 dnlt Legal and letter tray that retails for 275 to 300 for 180 new. They had it priced at 200.00 and I asked if they would take 180.00 and he did. It is a great printer !!

You could also just buy a second tray for the 5140, which would also solve your problem. You may also want to check ebay.

Buy a second tray for your 5140. You can get one for under 100 if you shop around. It is my main printer and it goes all the time .. no problems...

Depends on what ($) you can find a single LT5000 for as others have said, and/or if you need a second 2 tray capable machine. LT from the 5150 would also fit 5140 so you woud have good backup, and only have to stock consumables (toner, drum roller) for one family of machines, and be familiar with one set of blinking lights, rather than your meagerie of machines. Refurb Brother machines are usually refurbed by Brother and come with their full 1year warranty, so check that out. Try PCNATION.com for Brother refurbs. Their prices are usally better than Brother themselves. Over the years. I've been VERY satisfied with Brother products and support. As with all manufacturers you will run into a 1st level tech support bozo who may be new and doesn't grasp the problems of the world, but with a callback or bump up to 2nd level I've gotten excellant help. Currently have a 5050LT and a 5170DNLT and a 8-10 year old 2750 laser fax that I have to decide if I'm going to replace the drumroller or get a new faster fax (2920) or a MFC8220 which the LT5000 also fits. Got to research prices vs options. As always YMMV. (Tip O' th hat to PAW) Your mileage may vary.

Just a bit of info, Brother makes a 2nd 250 sheet tray (part # LT5000) that fits most of their midprice machines and snaps into place below 1st tray, will handle letter or legal, which can be chosen automatically if the doc format is so encoded. What you're referring to is the MP or multipurpose tray that can also hold letter or legal, but only 50 sheets. It will fit your machine. Usually MUCH cheaper to get it with initial purhcase as in 5150DLT vs 5150D, 5140DLT vs 5144D. Tray can be had for $100 to $120 usually, sometimes cheaper
