FLAKEY NOTARY
Called a notary to do a closing on Friday evening.. come to find out when we got back into our office at 8:00pm she said that she is having problems printing the dox we sent to her (pdf) and for us to call her asap. When we called her back all we got was an answering machine.. left 4 messages.. So, decided to contact the borrowers to see maybe she fixed the problem and was maybe there... they said NO.. that yes in fact they were aware of the problems printing and that she would call them one way or another.. they said they told her that she is welcome to come up until 11pm.... Well, the morning came.. so I called the notary..still no answer.. called the borrower.. and they said she never called nor never came over... so at that point we contacted another notary to do the execution.. now it's all signed and complete.... The reason for venting.. is we need to weed out the notaries who don't take their job seriously......Needless to say, she is on our NO-CALL list...

My God! That sounds like the nightmare of a signing I had on Thursday! Got a call at 2:00 P.M. from a signing service who asked if I was available for a signing at 7:00 P.M. about 30 miles away. I got a hold of the borrowers and confirmed everything for that night. By the time 6:30 rolled around and there still were no docs I was getting a bit concerned! Called the service and said they would check, I then called borrowers to tell them what was going on and they said OK, they'd wait. Finally almost 7 P.M., I called the service again and they said they had the docs and were sending them to me PDF. Great I thought! When docs got to me there was something terribly wrong! I couldn't open the blankety, blank things! I kept getting the message "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired". Now what do I do! I called the borrowers to let them know and they were alright with that. They wanted to get this loan signed and on its way! Started calling every number I had for this signing service and finally reached someone who went back to the office and resent the docs through EDS. Printed them out, called the borrowers. Left the house at 9:00 P.M., finished at 11:00 P.M., went to the FedEx office and sent the package off!
I'm new at this and try to do a good job I don't know this other notary, but if you aren't given good back up it's pretty hard to do a good job!

No-Call lists are are great and I agree that both sides need to weed out the bad notaries and the bad signing companies. As a Loan Officer I now add a banned signing services list to my escrow docs. After doing signings for a while and seeing some of the attitudes and problems from a notary perspective there are signing services who don't deserve to continue in business either.

Have the guts to post your company!
or perhaps your company has a questionable reputation.

At this point you haven't even spoken to the notary to find out what happened and you want to vent. Now it's very possible that the notary is a flake. Or there was some other emergency that prevented her from calling. Like in my cousins case. Six months ago there was a knock at the door. They were expecting the nieghbor so they didn't look out the peep hole before opening the door. Upon opening the door her husband had a gun put to his head and pistol whipped. They were then tied up and beaten because the robbers went to wrong house and thought this house was owned by someone with valuables in a safe. Thankfully my cousin was able to convince the robbers that they were in the wrong house, the robbers left without further harming them (they argued about whether or not to shoot them, one saying "no witnesses f'ing kill them). Now we all know that if an emergency arises that we are to call. But your bringing out the vent before even knowing what happened. I understand the frustration as we all experience it in one way or another in this business. I'm just stuck on the fact that you are choosing to go off before knowing the facts first. I could think of many emergency situations that could prevent the notary from calling. Granted they are rare but still they do occur.

Come on SarahBeth, the SA can not possibly give this poster a reason, she or he wont answer her msges. I had a signing for yesterday, the SA got into a car accident, and broken leg, broken ribs (2) and still was able to let us know they could not make the appointment. So short of being pistol whipped, believe it or not sometimes even SA's get flakey. It is not always the SS that is flakey.
lets be fair, as far as the original poster not saying who they are... after this exchange you would be nuts to name your co.
