How my business is shaping up

I was going through my spreadsheet of the past 5 months to see how my business is going so far. I got my notary license in April and did my first signing in May. So far, I've been increasing my business each month by quite a bit! I'm really enjoying this line of work. Thanks to everyone at Notary Rotary for helping me (whether you know it or not!) become a better notary every time I read the posts....

May - 1 signing
June - 7 signings
July - 13 signings
August - 24 signings
September - 32 signings!

I even had to turn down a few this past week as I was swamped with work. Hope everyone had a great September and an even better October!

You are doing great to just be getting started. What kind of advertising techniques are you using.

I only advertise on Notary Rotary and 123Notary (there are other sites I'm on, but I don't get any business from them). My website gets A LOT of hits from people searching for Notaries on MSN Search. I get quite a few calls from people who find my website while searching on the internet.

I also contact escrow companies regularly and give my card out to anyone I feel might throw some work my way. Lots of networking!

Anne, what part of SoCal are you in? I am in South O/C near the ocean. I am have in the biz for 1 year and am also doing quite well. You mentioned that you contact escrow companies regularly. Do you do this by phone, mail or in person? Are they local escrow companies? May I ask if you take low ball signings? I did the first 3 months I started out but since then, $65 is my bottom for local overnighted docs. Keep up the good work, I sure plan to.

I've been at this about 2.5 years also starting in May. Your stats are very similar to what mine were when I started

May 2
June 8
July 13 (had surgery and off for 2 weeks)
August 20
Sept - 30 something
October - just about 40

Be prepared: December, January and February you will see a big decrease, especially your first year. When March came, I got busy and am busier every month. Last Month I nearly killed myself. So in September, I decided to turn down all but two signing companies. I made a little less, but worked a LOT less and am a much happier camper. Just ask my Hubby :-)
