Independent Contractor Agreements
Decided to post this under a different heading.
Several of you, even Brenda, stated yesterday that you loved a particular company. However in looking at their online application they plainly state that they pay only $50.
My question is, to my seasoned fellow notaries, do you fill out these silly forms and sign them, and then up your fee if and when they call? I don't want to fill out all this paperwork for something I would not agree to later.
It also says they do a criminal background check. Does that bother anyone?
I know some of you have stated that you never fill out these "agreements" but how else will they know you exist unless you fill out their packet?

I sign up with many signing agencies, even if they state they are a $50 company. Quite often, they will still meet my fees.
As far as background checks go, I have no problem with them doing a BG check, as long as I do not have to foot the bill for it. Also, I do not authorize anyone to do a credit check. Let's face it, it is US that is extending credit TO THEM. We should do credit checks on them. (Maybe that would stop some of these services passing out rubber checks.)

Thanks Paw. Occasionally I get a packet that states $50, so I respond via email saying "sorry my minimum fee is $XX". Some of them reply back saying that's fine, and to just indicate that on their form, and others don't reply at all. I figure if they don't reply back, they are probably pretty inflexible about their rate.

You: They plainly state that they pay only $50.
Me: Betsy, lots of companies do this. Put in what you want to be paid for your base.
You: It also says they do a criminal background check. Does that bother anyone?
Me: I don't mind being checked out as long as they aren't dinging my credit file.
You: I know some of you have stated that you never fill out these "agreements" but how else will they know you exist unless you fill out their packet?
Me: Exactly. I do like PAW does when I fill out packets.
