Question, I'm a newbie

Hi everyone. I have questions:

1. If you make a mistake while notarizing, can you cross out the mistake and initial on the notarial instructions?

2. On the notarial instructions, where it says County of Ca, County of____________, Do you put the county you are in at the time of the signing, or what it says on your stamp?

3. If a the BWR cancels a loan, or the lender, do you still get paid? And by who?

4. If the escrow company, says they never received your invoice prior to closing and all funds are disbursed, but you did send it and it was proved, do you still get paid and by who, the BWR or the escrow company?

5. What is a fair fee, if you do not have to travel and the client comes to you for a loan doc signing?

I know I have lots of questions. Hope ya'll can help.

Hi there newbie,

Welcome! All your questions are good ones but they have been asked over and over again on this forum, so you will be able to find the answer to all of them by using the orange Search button at the top of the page. Once you get to the search page, put in a key word like "fees" or "errors". Read post 33325 for all info that you need to get started as a mobile notary. The post contains a lot of good advice. Then finally go to the button at the top of the page that says "First" and read through all the messages from the beginning. You will get all the answers you need, and more.

Good luck!

Before you get FLAMED by some of the ruder SA's on this site, I will attempt to answer some of your questions, however, the post which states to go to the 'basic' message is good. Now, what I have done with question 1, is to place 1 (one) line through the mistake, initial it and place the correct information. Question two, This would be the county where you are licensed to notarize; for example, I am in Las Vegas Nevada, county of Clark. I get documents from CA which state "State of CA County of _______". I cross out (one line only and initial) CA, Place Nevada there and put "Clark" in the county. However, check your SOS or notary manual if different. #3, If you go to the signing, and do YOUR part, You SHOULD get paid by the SS who hired you. You MAY have to fight with them but they will usually pay you. It's not YOUR fault the loan was cancelled. #4...I've never had that problem, the SS's I work for has an online invoice or a fax back invoice. #5 is up to you. This is YOUR business and you need to be paid for what YOU are worth. There is a message a while back (others, help me out with the message number), where it was broken down, by printing, driving etc. This may give you some idea as to what to charge. Hope this helps. If you think I can help you further, write me at [e-mail address], or ask someone maybe in your area. Good Luck....

Actually, you are to write the county that you are siging in. The NNA will corroborate that. For example, if your notary stamp says Lee county, but you are signing in Grant county, (same state), you are to write Grant county.

That's why the language says, "in and for the county of ______________", with the word "in" as the operative word.

1: Yes, put a line through the error, correct it and initial.

2: If you are meaning the venue at the top of the certificate, the venue is always the county in which you are doing the signing. I am in Brevard county, Fl, but if I notarize outside of Brevard county then the county I am signing in is what goes in the venue.

3: It varies with different companies. Some refuse to pay if the loan doesn't fund - always ask when they call you what their policy is on no-signs or if the loan doesn't fund and make your decision whether to take the signing or not based on what they answer.

4: You should still get paid from whoever hired you. Borrower has already paid for your services in the closing costs.

5: That all depends. If they just want the appropriate docs notarizing, then you can only charge your states authorized notary fees. If they want you to review the package then charge them your base signing fee - but let them know upfront what the fee will be.

If I may ask, who did you take your required education course from? Some of the questions you asked should have been covered in the course, and it would be a great service to those who are from Ca to know who is not teaching the required information.

I knew the first question, I just overthought it during a signing and questioned myself. I guess I just wanted to confirm. I also knew the second, I just wanted a clear confirmation and wanted to know what everyone else did.
