my advice to the newer S.A's
With winter coming and business slowing down in Nov., Dec., Jan....now would be a good time to double time marketing yourself. Register with at least 3 new services every day and develope a resume/introduction letter to mail to local lenders, etc. Also if you get ahold of Nationwide docs and signup and take their certification course, you will get calls for reverse mortgages, They send you a mock set of docs and training on how to handle the closing. I have a feeling this is going to become more popular as the baby boomers are getting up there. (imo) I did this earlier this week and already have three appts. Spend some money on business cards and leave them everywhere. Advertise on all the free sites you can find and pick a few that have a paying membership with a good rep. Remeber when looking for someone to advertise with, do a all kinds of searchs and use the ones at the top that always show up. Good luck to all over the winter months...time to tighten up the belt!

Which Nationwide docs are you talking about? There are a couple listed under signing services. I am not a new notary but am interested in doing reverse mortgages. Thanks for the advice and any further info. you can provide.

Christine Heins [[e-mail address]] send her an e-mail and request the training site from Wells Fargo on reverse mortgages. All notaries from now on have to pass the 20 question test and get certified. My guess is that many pkgs are coming in incomplete and inaccurate lately. They're in Chandler, AZ

Good advice.....Cheap Business cards
I belong to Sam's Club. Buy my legal copy paper there $20/case.
You can get 1000 matte business card templates for under $10.00. I have a color inkjet and a laser. Both can use the matte business card template. You can download the software template at Avery.com
It takes a little time to develop your card, but I thought it was fun. I have changed mine a few times. A lot cheaper than buying business cards.
Also, you can get cheap glossy brochure paper there(it is prefolded). I hand out fliers and business cards all the time. My local UPS store makes color copies for $.50(sometime both sides). Staples often runs sales for $.39. Officemax, OfficeDepot, UPS and Kinkos will often price match. ((My first couple brochures I had Officemax print at $2.00 for color copies on both sides. Ugh! You can do it yourself for a lot less.))
