A new low

I was contacted by a SS this afternoon, a very sweet young lady but not too swift. She wanted me to call the borrowers to set up the appoint ment. The docs weren't ready and she did not know when the docs would be ready, But I had to call and set the appointment within the hour. I asked her how could I set the appointment when I had no idea of when the docs would be ready to download. She repeated that the the docs weren't ready but I had to set the appointment within an hour of that phone call. I tried to explain to her that I had no idea when to set the appointment since she had no idea of when the docs would be ready. She said it didn't matter, I needed to set the appointment the docs would be ready sometime. I finally told her to get someone else. I was in my office and put the call on the speaker phone and by the time the conversation was over the staff and the other agents were convulsing with laughter over the conversation. I guess not only is the notary pay low at some of these SS but so is the IQ level.

I am not sure if she was stupid or just trying to pull a fast one and you didn't take the bait. It sounded like they were trying to use the SA to schedule it and if the docs didn't arrive on time the blame would fall on you. Good thing you turned it down, I hate when people are trying to be sneaky.

I remember one time I had to call a Lender because the mortgage was wrong and I needed a new one faxed to me (when I worked as a RE paralegal at a law firm) The Closer at the lender didn't know what document I was referring too?? She said is the mortgage the document that has a lot of pages? I also had to walk her through what needed to be changed. She was also the person that I had to fax my HUD's too for a funding number. Yep after that I felt real confident in her abilities.....

You know Nancy4_FLA it never crossed my mind....

Sometimes I walk through mine fields and as the mines explode around me I ask "what was that?" Fortunately my instincts keep getting me through. You might be right!

I have had a similar situation, and I told the SS , I would call the borr with a heads up, to get an idea of their availablity, and that I would would tenatively set a time, that would be later confirmed or ammened as need, once docs were finalized. This was fine will all concerned, and I was not stressed out all day, trying to play catch up for an appointment that didn't really exist yet. You might have lost a good assignment by playing devils advocate with her for your own amusement.

I agree Sheila
Sometimes, as the ss we are promised docs at any min. We are asked to set the appointment up with the borrower as the borrower is concerned. I know this does not
always happen on the time table that is given me. I say "Sure" and then get the job, yet
call the borrower or the signing agent and tell them to at least make contact with the borrower so they know the docs are getting ready.
The schedulers are not always signing agents, just a friendly person who is told to set up a job.
I know how frustrating it is to be on someone else's time schedule, but it can actually work out well, to say "yes" then you handle to appointment as you normally would do so. You now become a preferred signing agent because you are willing to take last min appointments.

Put it in the SS court

Charles you could have just told the SS that you'll make the appt. for 2006 since you didn't know if the docs would be completed by then. I'm sure she would have loved you more for this. Cheers.

Monday morning quarterbacks don't always have the

whole story but that never stops them from adding their own assumptions and then proceeding to give advice. Given my quirky personality I understand the confusion but what if there was more to why I might toss away another great signing experience. I truly appreciate everyone's concern about my financial wellbeing and the instructions on how to be a better notary signing agent.

Best regards,
Charles

Waxing philosophic here

Charles, I believe nothing happens by accident, and everything for the best -- regardless of its appearance to the contrary at the time.

One day in July, I had just completed another signing, and my computer equipment, including printer with fax capability had FRIED! As I was frantically trying to reformat my hard drive and rebuilt it, I received two calls from different SSs for assignments I had to turn down. Although I recognized the name of one as a big NO-NO and turned the assignment down on that basis, I was unfamiliar with the other and couldn't check. I berated myself for inability to accept the second -- money has been tight!

It took another day or two more to get the equipment set to rights. That day, I checked on the second SS and it turns out they, too, were a biiiiiig NO-NO. Shortly after, I got a call to perform a signing a long way away for a lot of money -- almost double what both assignments would have paid me had I accepted them. The signing took only 15 minutes -- my fastest on record!

Things have a way of working out, and as current euphemisms (?) go "It's all good!"

haha...I got one for ya.
I was contacted by someone. Here's the conversation
"Uh yeah, hi, um... can you do a signing for us today?"
I asked what time it was set for and the answer was "um...well, as soon as you can get there?" Lots of slurring, I swear someone had a liquid breakfast! lol
