Certified Signing contract

I started to sign a contract with Certified Signing Services and noticed a condition concerning compensation:
As of October 1, 2005, compensation will be paid when Certified Signing Services, Inc. is paid.

This sounds like if the loan doesn't go through, NO PAY!

I wonder if it would be acceptable to cross through and make note that would not be agreeable.

Sure you can cross through whatever you don't agree with. But, they probably wouldn't pay attention to it. So if you do accept a signing from them make sure that you will be paid. On second thought, you would probably be better off to forget them. If they have that kind of business model, they are more than likely just hanging on and you would have trouble collecting anyway.

I agree with John on this one. In my opinion, any company that does not have the capital to pay for services rendered and pay within 30 days, are just short of bankruptcy. Also in my opinion, any company that states "Your fee will be deducted if " will do anything and everthing possible to deduct.

Had this same discussion with Veri-docs just the other day

I received a phone call on my cell phone and agreed to do the singning for the terms we discussed. When the confirmation came through at the botom of the confirmation was the very non-specific "Important-notary fee will be reduced if documents are not signed correctly."
I politely told them that since theymodified our contract I would not be able to do the siginguntil they e-mailed me an amendment to that statement. Since "reduced fee" is subjective and so is "signed correctly" by doing the singing I ws ratifying the changes and therefore they had license to steal

Well, you would not believe the venomous response I got. I was told that being a notary public is an easy job and there are no excuses for mistakes. I explained that since the statement was subjective they cold do anything they wanted once I performed the signing and could say that virtually anything constituted "not signing correctly" Well after several e-mails back and forth it came down to the point where I was told I was going to be put on the blacklist on their secret website for signing serivces as a PITA notary and no one wold ever do business with me again. Talk about childish and unprofessional. Yep that's Veri-docs in Tustin California, work for them at your own risk, you've been duly warned!

The Secret Website Blacklist

Anyone have a clue what is the "secret website" blacklist is. ALthough I guess if it were known, it would not be "secret". Or is that just a scare tactic?

Also Charles, they had better watch their little secret blacklist. There are State and Federal laws aginst blacklisting independent contractors, and that does not mean just for state or federal contracts either.

Thanks for your responses. I accepted a job from them without the contract. They request that contractors sign up on their website. This is when I found the unacceptable contract language. I'm just debating if I should send the contract since I've already completed a job for them. I guess the truth will be know within the next 30 days!

Why?

I wouldn't send the contract. I don't sign contracts, they are usually not in the notary's best interests. Would you feel any more comfortable on the next ob with the same language? I don't signin up with anyone and I still get a lot of work, more than I can actually do because of other comitments. It has been my experience that it they need you it doesn't matter whether you have a contract or not. I believe that signing services asking for contracts has more to do with control of the notary than it does with loyalty.

You're entirely welcome Deb, now....

...if I could only find a computer that can spell. You'd think that with all of the advances in technology that one would able to buy a computer that can write what you think with perfect spelling and grammar Smiley. I have no Idea what happened but I really butchered that comment.

Best regards,
Charles
