Help - please re subscribing witness--rush!
I have been asked to certify a POA. They got my name off of NR. The pres. of the co cannot appear before me & the CFO will be appearing. I know none of these people. I have read & re-read the CA handbook--but it still looks like I cannot do this because I don't know any of them. Or, did I misinterpret, & I can if there are enough subscribing witnesses. Sorry if I sound stupid--I am a little panicked. TIA!

Hi Wendy. I am trying to understand what you have been requested to do. If you need to certify a POA, CA allows only to certify copies of POA. If you are being requested to acknowledge or to take an oath or affirmation, then all you need to do is either acknowledge the signature or give the oath or affirmation to the truthfulness of the statement(s) being made upon satisfactory evidence. In CA we cannot certify their representing capacities. As far as subcribing witnesses, you just stated you don't know them, so can't sign as subscribing witness (as the subscribing witness must know you).

Giselle & Merry--thank you so much!! I did find the info in the handbook before I posted but I started second guessing myself. In the end, it WAS only a certification of the POA & I ack. the sign & took an affirmation. Thanks again! Wendy

The CA notary Handbook (online @ CA SOS website) explains step-by-step how to execute subscribing witness transaction on pages 10 & 11. Hope that helps!
