LSI/Background Check

Just got a fax form LSI stating that to sign for them you have to consent to a background check. However, they state they will incur cost. I personally don't do enough with them to bother filing out. The fax says the reason for is recent laws regulating the banking industry? Growing trend?? At least they are paying for it. I wonder if Loan Officers, etc. have to comply with this. They state they will check criminal and DMV records only.

I received the same fax. I don't have any problem with a background check if the agency that wants it pays for it. Some companies want us to pay for it. If they all did that, it would be cost prohibitive. At say, $30 a whack times 200 companies, you're talking $6,000 dollars of YOUR income for those simplified, incomplete, checks. (And if you are signed up with more that 200 companies, guess what? It will cost even more ... possibly much more!)

It also states you can send a copy of a previous background check done. I faxed the results of one. If they still need one, I will comply since like you said they are paying for it.

I gave them permission to do one on me in March and the company that performed the
BG sent me a copy of it. Now I have that to furnish any other company who may ask for one.

I did a signing for them last week and I wasn't asked for a background check.

That was last week. This is this week. New day, new problems, new clients.

Nothing is more constant than change.

Here is the text:

As you may be aware, the recent passing of several new laws regulating the banking industry will have a changing effect on the way we all do business. All of LSI's clients are becoming more and more dedicated to ensure the protection and security of both their everyday business as well as the security of their customers' personal information.

One specific client, starting March 1, 2005, will REQUIRE that any signing, completed on its behalf, be completed by a notary who has satisfactorily been certified with a background investigation.

For this reason, LSI is asking for authorization to complete a background check on ALL of the notaries currently doing work for your office and/or completing work for LSI. The background check will search criminal records and Division of Motor Vehicles only, not credit checks or bank checks. Attached to this notice is a certification authorization form that needs to be signed by every notary who will complete work for LSI.

LSI will cover the entire cost of the Background check, so there will be no charge to the notary office. LSI will not be completing the background checks; they will be completed by a security company called A-check America. LSI will not get a completed copy of the background check, only a certificate indicating a background check was completed.

At least they are not asking SAs to pay for it.

I just got called to do one and was not asked to have a backround check and she didn't know anything about it. Maybe it is where the location of the scheduling is done.
