Slow payment
I performed a closing for Title Search USA, Inc. in July. To date I have yet to receive payments. I have contacted to person that scheduled the closing with me and was assured that payment was on the way. has anyone performed closing for this company and, if so, were you compensated.

It's sad how it takes that long to get paid for signings. I probably spend 20 times that amount of money before I see the original amount. But, it's understandable that the lender needs to pay the SS first, then you get paid. :(

No! It's NOT understandable...
and it's not ACCEPTABLE to feel you, as the notary, shouldn't or can't be paid until the lender pays the SS. You've done your job, the SS should pay. They should have enough cash reserves to adequately pay for all jobs as those jobs are done!!! As long as you accept this type of situation, the SS will continue to use and abuse those of you crazy enough to take it!!!!!

Their payment schedule is 45-60 days. If someone can't live with that time frame, then don't accept the signing.

Re: No! It's NOT understandable...
Sara,
I must say I fully understand your perspective, that such a delay in payment is totally unreasonable. It seems that I have accepted several jobs from Title Search (not knowing that much about them). The first one I believe was July 15th. Have I been paid yet? Nope. Do I expect to get paid at some point? From what I have read, yes. The bottom line is if I hadn't taken the job I would have zero, as I don't think I had anything else scheduled that evening.

You're Missing My point I Think Ted
I realize what you're saying Ted, but I don't want Kiso to think (since he/she may be new) that a NSA shouldn't get paid by the SS if the SS doesn't get their money from the lender. Again, the NSA has done his/her job for the SS, they should get paid, period!

Re: Slow payment - Kiso
We are talking about a title company though, not a SS. It is unusual to have to wait this long for payment from a title company.

Its only that way because everyone accepts it...
If notaries stopped doing business with SSs who don't pay within a reasonable length of time then the SS would either pay on time or go out of business. How long do you suppose an SS would stay in business fi they couldn't get packages signed. Do you think that the SSs could go out and do the volume of signing themselves even if they were cimissioned as notaries. We have a classic case of the tail wagging the dog. What is necessary is for notaries to decide they are not going to take it anymore and start doing something about it. If someone did not decide to stop acceptin status quo the coal miners in Virginia would still be enslaved to the Company Store. History is full of abuses but they were resolved by the abused party taking control. Remember the old saying: "you have to break a few eggs to make an omlette."

After reading the rest of these posts, let me rephrase what I said: NO it should not take this long for a title company to pay us....my first signing was with a title company (and boy, was it the best!)...loan officer was there to explain everything, there were only two pages to notarize, they paid me $350 and I got paid within less than one week! Talk about dream signing. As far as the signing services...I agree with CarolynCO....."if you can't live with the time frame then don't accept the signing." If they still havent paid in 60 days then that's a problem, but it's not your fault obviously...just understand that things happen, something slipped through some cracks but it will be handled...eventually.

I did one signing for them in December of 2005. I was paid June 2006 after much followup on my part. I will not accept another. I may have let it go except the borrower was a raving maniac. SA should not have to remind companies to pay.
