Well, this was a 1st...& hopefully LAST!
Went to borrower home, once there, to get to the dining room table had to work my way thru a maze of piled up newspapers, magazines and PILES of clothes! Got to the table and it was also piled up with junk, lady kept apologizing and saying she hadn't got around to cleaning this week, (what about this year?), so I explained we really needed a clear spot to sign the docs so she proceeded to shove everything to one side with a good portion of it falling to the floor where it was left. We sit down and I get all the paperwork together then went to move my chair a little closer to the table, when I put my left foot down there was a snap and I felt something attached to my foot, at first there was no pain whatsoever, when I looked down, there was a rat, not mouse, trap firmly attached to my foot, the man was freaking out and apologizing, seems they've had a little rodent problem so they set rat traps out, we removed the trap from my foot THEN the pain began, at this point i'm wondering WHY they couldn't just set regular mouse traps instead of these huge rat traps, they kept asking if I wanted to go to the Dr. and I said no, let's just sign the docs, so we proceeded to get everything signed, and they gave me 2 motrin, and I left, at this point i'm really limping, hurts the top of my foot to step down, get in the car, and of course I couldn't have a nice little automatic, I HAVE to buy cars with manual trannys, everytime I had to push in the clutch I almost wanted to scream! Got home and foot was really swollen, put ice on it and made appt. to see my Dr. Turns out I ended up with 3 tiny bones broken in the top of my foot. At this point I was wondering if the $175 I got for the signing was worth it, then the humor of the situation hits me and i'm thinking oh yeah, it's one of those that'll go down in my "book" of experiences and from now on I'll remember to look where I'm placing my feet! LOL

Sorry for laughing but this one is too funny! I've searched my manuals on "exorcising one's foot from trap with professional grace" but can't find anything on it! This will make a great story the next time one of us newbies asks about "high pay and job excitement". Thank you for a much needed smile today.

I'd send the Dr. bill to the borrower. Clearly, they were at fault.

I agree with Becca I would send the bill to the borrower and the agency. This is one of the best reasons not to accept those $50.00 signings. I hope the pain and swelling goes away quickly.

As a story we can see a little humor in this, but on the downside you have incurred a medical expense and most probably a lose of income for several days as not being able to walk Thur negligence of a home owner and no fault of your own.

After it happened the borrower did call his homeowners insurance company to let them know what happened and I called a notary that I know to come over and witness a statement from the borrowers as to what had happened. Thank goodness EOM rush is over! I'd have been really upset if this had happened right in the middle of it, but, too, in this business you have to look at the bright or sunny side of things that happen to us. I think the borrowers were more embarrassed than anything, and they were the ones that insisted on gettitng a statement on record. My out of pocket was only $30, 20 for the dr. and 10 for the pain meds, not counting any signings I may miss. I know my health insurance will go to thier ins. co. for reimbusement, but I won't sue, I think sueing people over minor issues has gotten to be way too overboard, they offered to reimburse me for any missed work anyway. All in all, I was lucky, (not about the trap LOL), but that they really were very nice people. As NSA's we walk into all kinds of weird situations, and run into all kinds of people. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes! I have to laugh and think, "leave it to me to do something as dumb as sticking my foot in a rat trap". Although the look on my husband's face when I told him what happened was enough for a really good giggle!! So now, until he does something really dumb, he'll tease me about sticking my foot in a rat trap, but, his time will come! LOL

I am happy that this was resolved in the manner that it was without involing any kind of big up roar. I like you think Sue has gotten to be a epidemic in the good ole USA. Wishes for a speedy recovery.

Wow! I feel for you...those rat traps are nasty. I'v e used them before. I can't believe they just had them lying about anywhere. Glad you didn't get hurt worse.

Rat trap.....reminds of a couple of signings I've done.
I did a signng in Santa Barbara, warm day with a nice ocean breeze, on the signers patio. He had two rat traps out there, in the form of Rat Terriers. While I was there, they caught a rat and were playing tug-o-war with it. I can tell you that "Rat Tug-O-War" is a very graphic sport .
The other one I wish I had a rat trap. This little dog that "never" bites, about the size of a rat, bit my foot. Fortunately, the thing was so small that it was unable to penetrate my shoe.
