Working around a full-time job
I am new at this - have done about 20 loan signings and I still have my full-time job. I find myself having to say "no" quite a lot for signings being offered to me during the day. I have one notary that I network with so far, but she does this full time and is very busy. More often than not she can't help me as her schedule is full! I'm just wondering if saying no too many times will take me off the SSs' lists. Any suggestions on how to handle this until I'm able to change my schedule? Any input will be greatly appreciated!

Just say " Let me check my calendar.(pause for 10 mseconds then say)..I'm not available at that time. I am booked until xxxx, but could do it at yyy or zzzz"
SSs and TCs realize they aren't the only ones using your services. Thats why they have lists of SAs.

I'm in the same boat - I just say Im booked for that time slot, which could happen to anyone doing this full time. Believe it or not, I fit signings into my lunch hour when I can.
What I ALWAYS ask tho..."is the borrower somewhat flexible...as I can fit him in at such and such a time"? Most times the answer I get is no...but at least I tried to work it out.

I agree with TitleGalCA. Give them the option of a flexability in schedule. They might have gone through everyone who said NO and that's it, that when they've called you, they have already asked the borrower to be flexable and they might be willing to do it at another time. You never know, but for the NSA's who don't say that, they could be losing a deal. I think it's better to give the option to them. Shows your trying to work with them.

Thank you all for all of your input! I will definitely make sure I make a point to ask if the borrower can be flexible. I have been slightly scared because someone has told me that I will be taken off their lists. It really didn't make sense to me because even if you are full-time, as many of you have said, you could be booked doing other signings! I feel much better. It still sucks to have to say no to the $$$ though! But I'm so grateful they are calling!

I have at times kept track of turned down signings. One friday, which was the last day for signings that could be booked for the month, I had 18 calls. Needless to say, I turned down a bunch. They will not take you off their lists if you turn down some signings.

I did it for 2 years, w/o any problems. kept getting the signings. Now i am full time, i seem to get less requests for AM/earlyPM signings. Feel free to send 'em my way if it doesn't work out time-wise for you. I am in SW FL, where are you?
