Isn't it illegal to back-date in all states? Last I heard, it is! You are notarizing a document that the borrower signed this document in front of you on M/D/Y. If you're back-dating you aren't telling the truth and have no right to do notarial work.

Re: Why is everyone using quotey marks on backdate? n/m

Just got a call from Superior Signing wanting me to do a signing today (09-27-2005). The docs were to be sent PDF, the signing time was flexible...and then "Oh yeah, the documents are dated for last night and it needs to fund by Friday". In other words they wanted me to back-date. I advised that I will not back-date and they promply hung up. Be advised that Superior Signing appears to want you to risk your honor and commission to back-date (we didn't even get to my fee). Be advised. Stuart, The Signing Doc, Las Vegas NV
