I really like my Brother HL5140. 21 ppm, comes with 16MB of memory and is upgradeable, reasonable consumables cost.

I have the Brother 8840D MFC. I love it, it does everything and I never have to worry if I'm not in my office if they decide to send docs via fax. The machine makes sure it prints on whatever they send it as, letter or legal. I just make sure it's full whenever I leave and never had a problem with it.

I can say though for as much as the "nicer" papers are supposed to be better for printing...I tried and I had it jam once...but went back to the OfficeMax brand and have never had a problem.

Hope that helps!

I'm thinking about getting a brother's printer. The one I've seen in the stores ony come with one tracy. The one you have, did it come with 2 trays or you had to purchase another. If so, where will be the best place to get the second tray.
Thnx

I've got the Brother 5140 also. Had to buy the 2nd tray separate as Staples didn't sell it. Try e-bay. Stay away from the laser jet for printing docs.

Try www.pagecomputer.com I bought my printer locally because I was in a hurry, but it would have probably been cheaper even with shipping thru Page. (Currently $185) Ordered the 2nd tray from them, $112.50 plus shipping

Smart people learn from the mistakes of others! I wish I were in that catagory. I knew I needed a laser printer, but didn't know how much/how many edocs I would be getting. So I went out and bought a Lexmark Laser (E321) printer, works fine, but not for 100 page docs.(problem feeding the paper.) Then I bought a Brother Laser HL5170DNLT, duel tray I figured this has everything I need. Well It works, but I find it very fussy about the paper. I'd get to the 65th doc, and then it would skip, and I'd have to start over. All this to save money. I finally bought (as almost everyone on this board recommends) a HP1320tn. Now it worked just fine except on really large PDF files, so after asking on this board I found I needed more memory. Sylvia (Thanks again!!) told me where to get good inexpensive memory (not from HP!) Now I have a good, duel tray, expanded memory, laser printer, that works like a charm! I suggest anyone seroius about this business just spend a little more money to start and get the right printer. Save yourselves, a lot of time, money, and hassles.

A good starter

Brother HL 5140, has the ability to have dual trays. Mine was total of $325. It is PCL 5/6 compatible. I think HP's are the best, I just couldn't afford it. Good luck.
