cost

has anyone done a job without discussing terms or cost? is it just supposed to be understood between the notary and ss what the cost is?

How do you do a job without having a confirmation beforehand? I have one SS that calls me and asks if I can do a job at a certain date and time whom I do not negotiate with because they know what my fees are without asking. I always have a written confirmation from them before the signing which states my fee.

For any other company that calls, once I've established who the lender is and how many loans are in the package, then I make a quote (or they make an offer) and they either approve the fee in writing or I don't do the job.

That sounds normal to me! I had never done business with this particular ss and they didn't say anything except can you do the job & here's the info. Then when I charged and made them pay they flipped out. I figured they were wrong too. Thank you for the feedback.

typically its discussed prior to accepting an assignment...also, if your dealing with a ss remember that regardless what the hud states, your only getting the agreed fee between you and the ss. Also, holding doc's for ransom untill your notary fee is in your hands is also completely UNacceptable. Not sure if your the same signer but I heard about this scenario on another SS/TITLE/ESCROW discussion BOARD and your name was listed. This is NOT a way to conduct business.

I will have to cut and copy the proof I didn't hold the docs for ransom

*they didn't say anything except can you do the job & here's the info. *

Excuse me Sharon, but it is YOU that is responsible for asking what they are authorized to pay and counter-offering the amount if it is not acceptable and then they either say no way, they counter your offer, or they accept your offer. You never *just do a signing* blindly without knowing what you are going to get paid. After you verbally agree on the signing fee, then you verify same on the confirmation sheet they send.

If you are conducting signings without knowing *what you are going to get paid* and then using the HUD figure as your signing fee, you are WAAAAAAAAY off base. If you are holding the documents as ransom for payment, you are looking to get yourself in more trouble than you are able to handle.

Re: to Sharon Collins

Cori German/ Mobile Docs have posted that I held the docs ransom not only is that not true but it is defamation of character in writing no less!

You stated that they flipped out... what was the fee you invoiced???? Maybe you need to reconsided the way you conduct YOUR business.. not to bad mouth Sharon Collins.. but there is a lot of NEGATIVE publicity about this person.

Cori never discussed cost or terms she just called and said can you get this done? I said sure sent her the invoice before I did the job, she didn't say no, she didn't say forget it. She just said I'll pay you later! I in good faith did the job. You know your right there is negative publicity how is that?

OMG....what kind of a notary doesn't discuss his/her fee prior to an assignment?......a very inexperienced notary I would say. I also heard about this "Sharon" notary on the SS/Title/Escrow discussion board. If this is the same Sharon.........shame on you for holding docs ransom. What they should of done is found another notary to do the signing and let you keep the docs. Any knowledgeable notary knows that when you do a signing for a SS the notary fee on the HUD is split between you and the SS. What do you think SS's work for free? They're the ones that got you the assignment. Think McFly.

Why would a SS with MobileDoc's rep suddenly choose you to ruin their good name over?

I agree they are a great company to work for and would not ruin their name over this.

Establish all the fees up front including no sign, etc. If I do my job I expect to get paid regardless of what the borrower does.

This is really a job....right? Surely you wouldn't just take a job from a company that you know nothing about without setting your fee? And no confirmation? Seems like a strange thing to do.
