late signing

I did a signing last night for Notary Connections, Inc. I read in past postings that they pay fast. They offered me $80 for a refi that was 25 miles one way, bout 100 pages. Said the signing was to be done between 7 - 10pm. I told them I wanted min $100. They put me on hold and said ok. Then, when I contacted the borrower, I found out he worked a graveyard shift and I would meet him at 10pm at his job that ended up being 38 miles one-way. The docs didn't arrive until 9:30pm. I called the ss and told them I wanted $125, they agreed, I didn't get home til 12:45pm (had my husband rode with me for security reasons to sit in the car and wait for me). Any thoughts on how much you can charge for late night signings? Or was I ok with just the $125? Thank goodness it ended up being in a nice area.

My personal opinion, Jan, is $125 would have been fine for a 5-10 mile radius, I would not have done that one for less than $175. And $80 for an e-doc signing is just laughable.

I would say it depends on your area. I have done closings after 10pm and I have charged as low as $200 and as high as $300. I actually charge higher fees for closings after 9pm- the later the hour, the higher the fee (plus of course, factoring in distance.) I've actually been offered $350 before to travel an hour away to do a closing after 11pm, but they called at the end of the day during EOM, and I was exhausted after an 8-closing day, so I turned it down.

Thanks all for the feedback. The same company called tonight and wanted me to go 38 miles one way, another 98 page edoc signing, for $80!!!! I said no less than $125 and asked if it was going to turn into another "after midnight signing"? They assured me it wouldn't, but said they were only authorized to pay $80. I professionally declined.

Re: I'm a sucker!!!

I have once worked for a previously favored SA until 6:00 AM (all night!!!), doing two closings and only charged them an additional $25 for each!!!!!

Wait until I get all of those title companies under my belt!!! ;(
