need printer referrals

I also work in a small law office and need some opinions on a good laser printer which is reasonably priced. I do quite a bit of printing and right now myself and the girl that works part-time both use Brother HL1440's. The drum went in the one and it would pay to just buy a new printer rather than spending $160 on a new drum.

Re: need printer referrals more info needed

Specs on 1440 15 ppm, PCL4, 2meg memory.

Spec on HL5140 21 ppm, PCL6, 16meg memory. Drum life 20,000. Cost ~$200.

Don't know what you define as "quite a bit of printing"... 3,000/mo or 10,000/mo. Define.

Do you want a printer that will last several years or do you look at printers as consumable?

I probably do about 3,000 per month. something that is going to last longer than a year. we paid $150 for the printer that is giving us trouble and the drum is going to cost $160.

If you go to www.hp.com - click on printers - type "refurbished" in the search box - click on the first link ---- it will take you to a page with links to refurbished and discontinued printers. Sometimes you can get a GREAT deal - Just ask Indiana Notary. HP 4200 for $439.

I noticed today that you can sign up for email alerts. I believe the HP warranty is the same as new with these printers.

Hi, the HP Laser Jet 5 is very good - you may have to go to a reseller or check Amazon.com since this is an older HP but the new HP 1320tn is also very good. I have both machines.

SO personal recommendation

For a small office with big printing needs, especially a law office that deals with loan documents, I highly recommend the HP LaserJet 5si (if you can find one) which has been discontinued. HP has replaced them with the HP Laserjet 9050 series. I also recommend the Laserjet 4250 series which is less costly than the 9050. Search HP's website for more information on these models.
