travel fees

How have you decided on what to charge per mile over your normal travel range; ie; 1-20 miles fee+? or Will you please share ideas?
Thank you [e-mail address]

I try to consider not only distance (miles) but location and route. Many times a close (10 miles or less) takes longer than a longer distance (more than 10-miles) because of traffic and route getting their.

Judy,
When I do signings, I charge a flat fee for miles over the norm of 1-20
and then an additional for over 50+
Lets just say $25.00 over 20 miles
and $50.00 over 50 miles.. something like that

if the IRS has 40.5 cents a mile and your looking at round trip... sometimes flat fees are quicker to convey to the signing co, or t/c ect.

try it out on someone who calls you... see what you get... hey try it out when I call you next time
;)

Don't forget that the IRS is now allowing 48.5 cents per mile from 9-1-05 through the end of the year.

Thanks to you all for your responses. Helpful and sensible. If anyone else has a formula that they use, I would appreciate hearing. Of course what works for one may not work for another, but it is good for compairing and seeing what others charge in different markets, territories and road conditions.

P.S. Also ....

researching earthquakes, since I had a very strong dream last night there was one ... and lo and behold, Mt. St. Helen's was a naughty girl today, "coughing" (4 times) a bit more heavily than she has in the recent past. (And Vancouver, B.C. is shifting quite a bit according to the news -- due to a shift in tectonic (?) plates that has been going on in the San Juan du Fuca plate and one other.

Iris

This has nothing to do with, SA or that, but I have a friend going through a divorce and with two young children. I was thinking the medical transcripts might work better than being a SA
because she can work at home. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
