2 years "experience"

Was told by a company that they require their signing agents to have "2 years experience" (whatever that means). However, is being a signing agent for 2 years the same as having 2 years "experience"?

OK, with that logic.................

My 500+ signings, but "only" 1 year and 5 months "experience" disqualifies me, but someone else with maybe a few dozen signings and 2 years as a notary makes them eligable.

Exactly! Which is why the better qualification would be, how many signings, not how many years.

That's exactly how I posed it when I was signing up. I told them that I was about 8 months shy of their required time but I had more than xxx number of signings at the time. It worked.

Re: OK, with that logic.................

I signed up with IREP when I was new and was told I needed 2 years exp. Another notary that had started signing a month before me was getting work from them. I brought this to their attn., (not giving the notary's name, of course!) but I was still told I needed more exp. It always bugged me that I had just missed the boat, if I had gotten my packet in a week or two earlier I may have gotten some jobs! Now that I have about 3 yrs. exp. I should call the recuitment office. It seems that they have a good rep. on the boards.

Re: OK, with that logic.................

Geez - IREP was my very first signing....They are responsible for getting me started with this business. I have since done 100's of signings for them. I am always requested from the branch and if I'm busy they find someone else to cover it but they always give me a shot first. I had no experience when I started with them except the fact that I worked for an attorney and knew some of the basic terms due to him doing real estate closings.

I totally agree!

I've had contact with some people who have been notaries for 15 - 20 years, but they have the same one year of experience over and over again! ;>Wink (Only partially kidding... and I bet this holds true for practically anything. Those of you who are golfers know exactly what I mean!)

Re: Have you considered

explaining that you've got over 500 signings (or however many) but you lack just a few months of the time requirement? I know a couple of people this has worked for. Just ask for someone in charge. What have you got to lose?
