Anyone else having these problems?

Several people I know here cannot utilize the " Save as" in Word and Internet explorer does not respond when a web address is typed in their window. Google and msn still works on mine. I sent in the error reprt and did not get any info back from Microsoft so this must be a new one. I see there were a bunch of auto updates from them on Friday, which is about when this all started.

Any of you experiencing this?

You could always try to use the restore feature if you are running xp and use a date when you know your computer last worked correctly. Virus scan you system and spyware scan your system also.

Those two programs work fine for me. But I use Firefox most of the time. I only use IE when I run across a website that won't work with Firefox .. and those are now few and far between.

Also, you might want to turn off your auto-updates and set it so it prompts you that an update is ready. That way, if an update causes a problem, then you can pinpoint what update it was that caused the issue.

Per ZDnet, the new IE patch is causing problems with address bars and the Google toolbar.

Re: For those interested....

MS has a workaround on their tech webpages that currently involves editing a particular key within the windows registry. You can access this if you have subscribed to technet or MSDN...otherwise best to wait for next patch.....

Thanks, Winston Good information

Am I correct that a computer that has accepted the update won't have problems unless they run IE?

I have always advocated keeping Windows up to date, but I don't like automatic anything, so when I am notified of an undate, I usually let it sit in my computer for a week or so to see what happens in the world before I accept it. I do have a couple of geek friends that give me a hard time about that practice and say I should always have the auto-updates turned on as I may be causing more problems for myself in the long run. I would like your opinion.

Actually Glenn, It has been reported that it has to do with Hewlett-Packard's Share-to-Web software. There have also been other vendor (share to web portal) software issues noted on some of the tech forums, but HP is the only 'reported' culprit.
• Any HP DeskJet printer that includes a card reader
• HP Scanners
• Some HP CD-DVD RWs
• HP Cameras

and.....
I am with you on MS updates and Service packs! I prefer to see the fallout, and make the determination as to the benefits, prior to install. This is especially prudent when maintaining an enterprise network. AutoUpdate 'disabled' is an enforced standard policy for many large corporations. It is easier to schedule a controlled deployment at a specific time and , in many cases, to specific machines.

Re: Glenn...sorry....

my mind must have hit a bad sector. The actual answer to your question should be YES. The culprit is a new file called verclsid.exe whose use is exclusive to IE. Verclsid.exe is used to verify a COM object before it is instantiated by Windows Explorer.
