EIN number, SS-4 questions

Hey everyone, I got a question. I'm going about getting an EIN number and I'm wondering how to go about the type of entity section. I have no intention of having employees but want an EIN for applying with TC's and SS's so I dont have to use my SSN. I understand I can ue Sole Proprietor but that means using SSN for all things according to the IRS(on hld with them now). SHould I go LLC or S Corp and file DBA papers in my county or as an LLC or S Corp with the state of Michigan.

I use an EIN and haven't filed for a DBA or LLC or such. I don't use my SS# for any notary business.

You can just get your EIN and still call yourself a sole proprietor. No need to go LLC or S Corp, if you did, you would have to pay the minimum corp fee each year of $800. I use my EIN for all business purposes. You can go on line and get it in 10 secs.

I also use an EIN for my business. I'm not an LLC or etc.

Do you file quarterly taxes? How do you get by the 990 forms for that?

I file quarterly. I just print everything I need off of the IRS website. This was the first year we filed taxes this way and it was just as "regular" as using a SS#.

Thank you, Beth for clearing that up. I was curious about that. since I have a FT job, it takes care of some of the SE tax burden for me, so quarterly filing wouldn't be necessary in my case I have found thus far.

John are you certain about the $800 corporate fee for an LLC? I am in Iowa, have three LLC's and I don't pay any annual or other coporate fee. Is is possible that is state specific?
