EIN verification

Many months ago, the discussion here pointed out the benefits of getting an EIN. I applied online, got my number, wrote it down, and have been using it with signing services. I was expecting to receive something in the mail documenting this number but have not.

Does the IRS send out a card with the number? Is there a way to verify online that the number I am using was truly assigned to me?

Thanks for any input.

I applied for mine over the phone and got the number right then. After a couple of weeks, I got a form letter from the IRS with the EIN in the top right of the page. Maybe it was lost in the mail. I would call an ask them if they could send you a copy.

I faxed an application to the IRS. About 1 week later I had an EIN assignment letter in the mail.

Carol you must have filled out an SS-4 online. Did you print a copy of what you filled out online?

Re: link to confirm EIN

Carol - this site allows three free reverse-lookups on EIN's:

I know there's a few places you can look it up on-line, but this was the first one I found. Just input your number, and see if you come up! If you do, then I wouldn't worry about getting any 'hard copy'.
