Fax Backs

Has anyone been able to get out of doing this? It is soooo time consuming. After doing 4 or 5 closings, I'd spent hours the next morning with all the fax backs and prepping docs for shipping. I am finding more and more companies are asking for fax backs these days.

I'd like to understand what good are the fax backs anyways. If there are mistakes, it's too late if docs have been shipped. One company even wanted their Privacy Notice faxed back.

I always ask about fax backs when they call to book the appointment. If they do require and it isn't a toll-free # then I add to my fee. If its more than 5 pages then I add to my fee. Usually once I tell them the increase due to fax backs they either pay the fee or they will not need the fax backs. If neither of these things happen I don't do the closing. ie: "Vital Signings"

I agree, fax backs are a pain and time consuming. Perhaps it is to review for any errors "prior" to sending the docs back.
However, it very often delays the shipping back the docs too because they also often require you to wait for approval before sending. If this delay becomes too long I might stick a note in the package explaing shipping was delayed due to SS requiring approval to send and first possible was missed. I do this because I don't want to take the hit for the delay in returning the docs.
I must add that I am in a very rural state and that UPS/FedEx do not have 24/7 hours. UPS is especially bad.
Having to fax all 15 pages of the mtg/deed is also crazy.

Time is Money

Since fax backs aren't an automatic requirement for every signing they must be treated as an additional fee. The fax back request is equal to charging a printing fee. When we receive the assignment call and we are told it's edocs we add the print fee. Now the print fee is in consideration of the cost of paper, toner, equipment, electricity, TIME, and PROFIT. The time factor has nothing to do with how I manage my time in regards to multitasking. Whether or not the number is toll free is not a big consideration. If I am performing an additional duty, and in this case it is an additional clerical duty and if I want to be succesfull business woman who earns a profit and doesn't just break even or go down the tubes then I have to charge for fax backs.

The day that every single assignment requires fax backs is the day that the additional fee becomes a part of the base fee thus making the base fee higher.

Re: Time is Money---Yep!

I charge for faxbacks because as Sarahbeth says, it's my time that's worth the money. It isn't about paper/etc. And as Beverly put it, if the the requesting company and myself can't come to an agreement, then I don't do the signing.

I don't have this problem with my "regulars". These companies know my work.
