Hard Cover Notary Journals

I have never understood why Notaries need a hard cover Journal but I am going to purchase one. Yes: Joe E you were right!!

I posted earlier that I had gotten a lot of "public notary work" and I have also done a number of loan signings last week and I have not seen a table to work on for over 7 days.

I have always marketed myself to companies that handle "sub prime/B paper/deadbeat creditors/whatever you want to call people with bad credit" and I have probably been to every bad neighborhood in the Inland Empire but this week I hit the jackpot!

I was in one home that was so cluttered (nice word) that I had to sit on the couch and the borrowers brought boards from another room to sign the docs on, I had the husband turn the docs upside down on the rug!! No other place to put them and I had my briefcase on my lap and the old stamp I have (will get a new one soon) is tough to stamp unless its a hard surface.

I was desperate Saturday (non loan signing) that I saw a child's Snow White book under the chair in front of me and I grabbed it to notarize on!!

Every person(s) I notarized for this week had some of the same problems/ and or different problems; but there was never a table or anything resembling a table to sign on.

I am now a Hard Cover Journal Convert!!

Even though my state is a non-journal state, I have always kept one. Not only is it a great desktop, but I keep the tracking#'s of the docs in it. When I am called for a tracking#, I can pull over & give it instead of having to tell the co, "It's at home with the confirmation".
The greatest gift I have received is a legal sized clipboard. I keep my confirmations on it, and it has also worked great as a desktop. I had a closing where I let the borrower use the clipboard and I used my journal as desktops.
I had another closing where I used the clipboard, and as I reviewed and signed the docs, I clipped them under one another. (This was the Green Acres house... 2 adult pigs and 2 piglets running loose..no way was I going to put the papers on the floor).
Another reason to keep a journal: I was called by a co to confirm if I had signed a QCD from 2 years ago. I can't even remember what I did 2 days ago, let alone 2 years ago. Checked my journal, and nope, wasn't me who signed a QCD.
I know a journal may seem like a pain, but it is invaluable.

"Cluttered " houses ----Tip

I have been in some disgusting places also, with no clear surface
Want to ask the "people" where they eat, but on second
thought, I wouln't eat a tic-tac there
Also had some yuppies with a pool table in dining room
and TV/snack tables for dining. Not the best for doc signing
I carry a small, folding ,4 person picnic table in my trunk
$20 @ Target . Has come in very handy in these situations
Hope that everyone had a profitable EOM
