I'm curious about your answers.

Has anyone been faced with the same situation I was today-- I was booked solid and one of my regular TCs needed another notary and fast. I was asked if I knew of anyone in the particular location. My question is have you ever chosen not to recommend someone simply because you don't like the way the appear on this and/or other boards? Even if you don't know them personally? Now I'm feeling kind of bad about it.

Re: I'm curious about your answers. Yes, I have

I have chosen not to recommend any one rather than recommend someone I don't think will do a fair job and I also don't recommend someone who I know would not recommend me. I am in an odd position because I keep some of my clients aware of my calendar and do quite a bit of work in both my home county and in Orange County which is about 640 mile away when I am there. There are several people who work Orange County who have posted on this board who I will not recommend. You should not feel bad about it. You should never recommend someone who will make you look bad, and you should not recommend some one who is not a team player. When I make a recommendation I never expect a referral fee from the notary but I do expect a return of the favor and I only recommend those who I know will do as good a job or better than myself (yes, there are some notaries here who I know are better at notary work than I am) there are also times when I don't really want to work, such as when I have time scheduled with that certain someone special. My close friends and my family always come first.

Why on earth WOULD you reccommend someone you don't know personally if all you have to go on is how they post on this board? That somebody participates on the message board doesn't automatically make them referral material.

I'd recommend you if asked about an LA notary.

I feel you can tell a lot about a person by their posts...writing style, logic, whether or not I think that person is a bullsh__ artist, if I think they charge reasonable fees.

Women are like elephants and never forget anything...we also rely more on instincts than men. What we learn on this board about a person's work style sticks in the old steel trap right up there with the last time you sat on your butt while I did the dishes...or when you told me I was retaining fluid and my ankles looked like tree trunks...that I shouldn't wear that dress (red with daisies on it) because it makes me look fat...the time you bought me a weedeater for my birthday...when you wore my last pair of navy pantihose without telling me...when you did any number of the insensitve things you do in this relationship.

I am getting steamed...I just cannot talk about this right now.

Yeah, well maybe if you got off your butt and cooked me a hot meal once in awhile I'd be more sensitive to your needs. And don't even get me started on my bedroom needs which you can't satisty!

** which you can't satisty!**

I have had it up to [here] with your smart remarks and that phase you are going through with your own little version of "Knights in White Satin - the Board Game."

For crying out loud!! I am with the other two on liking the Moody Blues...I am reasonable... but two is company and YOU-know-how-many is a crowd!

Oh no. Hey...I'm sorry. Please don't cry. We'll be okay. I promise.

The Moody Blues? A little before my time sweetie.

That's what happens when you find yourself a hot young boy toy, you lose understanding of most of your cultural references. So if you had plans to use My Little Margie, or Nelson Eddy & Jeanette McDonald or what it was like for you in the Great Depression, you shoudl scrap em now.

I disagree with you, Cali

I know by reading poster's answers whether they're knowledgable, or not. It's true that I wouldn't know if they had a third eye- or - body odor but I would not hesitate to refer some on merit of their posts. I have good friends that are notaries, however I would not recommend them for a loan signing. OK, I know it's late, and I'm tired, but does this make sense?

Re: I disagree with you, Cali

I have 2 notaries in my area that I network with. We let each other know when we are going to be out of town etc and cover for each other. Works great because I know them and know they do great work. There are other notaries that really don't do many loan signings and have a lackadasical approach to it. I never recommend them

Perhaps you should get to know one or 2 in your area if you run into this now and then. Develope a good, "non threatening" relationship with them.

Re: I don't know this notary other than on a couple of

message boards. And my reasoning for not mentioning her name had nothing to do with if I thought she was capable or not. It's that I don't like her. And I only have her posts on a couple of boards to base my opinion on.

Stamper...I know several notaries in my area. (Not to mention relatives!) I've recommended several when someone calls and I'm booked. This is an area across the state from me so this company was hoping I'd drive forever for a good fee...I was booked.

I think I didn't word my response well

If Beth ONLY knows this person from what they've posted on the boards, and she doesn't like what she's seen them post, why on earth would she refer business to them?

Better?

Yes, Cali --- better. You've absolved my guilt. Smile

That was my attitude and then I started to second guess myself because I've never met this woman.

Love YA!

g'm Beth

I used to have one particular SA I would refer business to but after 9 referrals and nothing in return I decided I've had enough of that. Now I simply say I'm booked for that slot, are the borrowers flexible? As far as referring someone who has posted and is in my area, I dunno, not many in my area and they post so infrequently that I have no clue as the quality of their work. I do think that if there was someone near me that posted negatively constantly, had a smart attitude and "the world owes me because I'm so darn good", nope, wouldn't do it.

Re: g'm Beth---Sue

I have to confess, it was more of a case of me being a brat. I don't normally handle the particular area because it's across the state from me. It's one of my regulars and they want to pay me a hefty fee to handle the appt. I was booked. I know of this one notary there that does work that area. I understand she's good. From her posts on a couple of message boards in the last year or so, is how I've determined I don't like her. Not my usual M.O. but none the less, I kept my mouth shut and didn't recommend her. I guess I started feeling guilty about it because I don't really know her. Just made my assumptions from what her posts.

Re: Beth

ahhhhhh but you have to remember Beth...that not everyone are the same people when they post on the message boards. You really can't judge their character cuz what or how they post a message. That would be like me judging you or Cali or Charles or anyone else here cuz I don't like how some groups "click" but that is not for ME to judge. i may not like how or what they always say, but it may not be their character. However, if their behavior on the message boards are one way, it is very easy to assume. Doesn't make use right (nor wrong). I bet most of these folks are the nicest, sweetest and do the most fabulous work and have total different personalities when they are on the message board.

...does that make sense? if not, your welcome to email me to ask! <wink>
