New Closers, Signing Agents

Recently I have had the pleasure of mentoring 2 new closers. (Not in my area of coverage). With both of them, the rush seems to make as much money as quickly as they can. I have tried my darndest to get it through to them that KNOWING the docs is the bread & butter of this business. They are both so worried about marketing and getting calls, they are messing up on the docs. YIKES!
I see posts on here all the time about newbies wanting to get calls and how to do it, yet the whole point of this is doing a GOOD job, and you can't do a good job unless you know the docs and how to properly execute them. For the newbies: If you've got a mortgage yourself, get out your docs and read 'em and then read 'em again and again and again. Do not go to a closing unless you are sure what you are doing.
The phone calls will come your way when you have proven yourself to the closing companies. And that will only happen when you are sending back docs that are complete. And remember this, if you make a mistake, you go back at your own time & your own money.
My one "Student" took a closing an hour from his home only to find the state was incorrect on the docs. And he didn't fix the error while at the closing....so back he goes... for free.
It's a good idea to re-examine the docs BEFORE you leave the closing. An extra 10 or 15 minutes is in your favor if you've made and error or missed an initial or signature. Going back for free is not fun.

Just sign here doesn't always work.

A title company had 168 loans closed in January and more than half need to be redone because of Signing Agents in the State of Michigan. Learn this trade before you start this business. You only hurt your self and other Notaries Signing Agents.

Well TC & SS also need to act more responsibly

Today, after making numerous phone calls to the borrower to schedule an open date/time closing, (left messages on answering machines and the whole bit)--- I found out that the borrower talked countrywide into allowing her sister to do the closing. No one ever called and cancelled this with me, or ever mentioned anything to me. Now if this is an appropriate way to handle these closings ok. But dont whine about the resigns. What do I now do with the confirmation? I guess just throw it away.
I know I rank high with countrywide and always do a thorough job for them. I do not appreciate the unprofessionalism shown in this transaction.

Big shock. I wouldn't waste my time on people with this attitude. Once the "big money" reality sets in for them they'll be history.

Big Money!!! Where do I sign up!!!!

I've been doing this for over three years.....haven't found the "big money" yet, but I have spent a lot on research, education, marketing, supplies, GAS, etc. Still I love the job and will hang in there....

Maybe there's a "pot of gold" at the end of one of these signings....you think?
