OT-April Is National Autism Awarness Month

This month is National Autism Awareness Month. The rise in diagnosed cases of children born with Autism is considered to be of epidemic status. I encourage you to go here http://www.autism-society.org/site/PageServer?pagename=WhatisAutism and take a few minutes to read about the disability that is affecting so many families. One thing that surprised me about Autism is that when I actually started talking about it to people 9 out of 10 of them had a friend, family member, or coworker who had a member of thier family whether it be a child, cousin, uncle, brother-in-law etc that was on the Autistic Spectrum.

I would like to also point out to Floridians that love going on bike runs that there is one coming up in May. I am pointing this out because every motorcycle enthusiast I have mentioned the bike runs to always says "oh a bike run, where is it, when is it, how do I get the information".

Sarah, I think I heard about the bike run...from Tallahasee to Naples or something like that. It was on the news. I think that is the group it runs for.

Thanks for sharing the info...its always good to learn more about diseases that unfortunately affect thousands and thousands of children.

Safe hugz, Dee

Dee the ASA does 3 or 4 runs a year in different parts of the county and your right they do get news coverage.

Just to clarify Autism is not a disease it is a developmental disability. I understand how hard it is when you are affected by any of these things. You spend so much time trying to research and learn all the while dealing with it in your own home that it makes it hard if not impossible to devote even more time and emotional energy to look into other issues. I myself have more than one child that is affected so I will openly state that I don't know alot about other disabilities and diseases. Regardless of that we've got to stick together and help hold each other up. If you ever need a shoulder for venting, crying, or cheering on feel free to email me.

Sarahbeth,
I have two boys with autism! What a shock to see someone in a similar situation with the same job I have, too!

It's such a logical choice though. We are moms who need to stay home with our kids. When I was working full time out of the home I found myself needing to much time off for appointments for evaluations and IEP's, not to mention if any of my kids got sick that was more time off. What better way to earn an income than one where you can choose your schedule.

You're absolutely right! I find it almost impossible to take the last minute closings, however. I miss a lot of work b/c of that. I used to take on more same day closings, but it just got to be more stressful than it was worth! This is my third year doing this and I still can't get over the Murphy's law type of things that happen, ie. that nice offer comes in from the title co. you really like and you already have a Dr. appt. for one of the kids and it will take 3 months to get another one...then the whole tome you're in the waiting room you're counting the dollars you're missing out on and how much you could use them to pay for the dr. appt.! lol Or when the docs don't arrive on time and the only person that will ever babysit (Mom!) is not available anymore when they do arrive!
I guess the same stuff happens to all of us Moms. It's just harder for me to get the sitters! lol

Laurie, I don't worry about if I get a call and I've already got an appointment. If I am booked, well I'm booked and yes I have thought about how it would have been nice to take that signing there will always be calls for other signings. I only work when the kids are in school, evenings, or weekends. I don't even go the babysitter route. To much hassle and stress. For e-docs they have a drop dead time for docs or they become the last appointment of the day unless borrower can't meet then.

If you get one of those t/c calls that you are unable to do just count how long that dr. appointment took and recover that missed time later and focus it on marketing.

I don't have a child with Autism, but I do have a child born with dwafism. I do know what you mean about taking 3 months to get an appointment! Yikes, and if you your child gets sick, it's not like a normal child getting sick. With mine, you have to worry about complications breathing and all kinds of other stuff! Don't get me wrong, he's doing great now, (he's 18months btw) but when he was first born, I lived in the hospital for 3 months!

Apparently I missed whatever was mentioned on the March of Dimes...however, even it was, we SHOULD NOT discourage each other to participate. Kids are our future and if we can't support each other and help these kids, then ...well I'll plead my 5th on this. There are many parents on here who have children with disabilities or life threatening illnesses...anyplace, from anyone we can get support we should and we should NOT discourage it.

After all...if it was YOUR child, what would YOU do????

BTW Sarahbeth...thank you for your support and know I'm here as well for you. I hope things are going well for you.

As for Anonymous....your post was insulting, rude and disrespectful to those parents who so much deserve the support. Whatever happen last week, I don't know. I'll have to look it up, but it is NO exuse for your behavior at this time. you could have asked it in a different and sensitve way so that there are NO misunderstandings or miscommunications.

And for the rest...well... I wonder who may or may not have hearts...for kids. As I said before...if it was YOUR CHILD...honestly, what would YOU do?

Dee, CNSA & a concern mom of a disable (life threatening illness) child!!!

Yep.... a Poser is Charm

And it's not disgusting...just the game...and the "Rules".

Remember the book..."Rules" (darn it, I probably didn't say the entire title, or the author) but it made the NY Times bestseller list. See, it's all about the readers and what they want.

Call the NY Times and complain...end your subscription. Nobody really cares, because it's a good post and reminder. The sour grapes just don't matter.

Re: Yep.... a Poser is Charm

Game?? what game. this is not a game. And I read the rules and guidelines and there is nothing in there that you can not "solicit for charity"...it clearly says not to ADVERTISE FOR YOUR OWN BUSINESS. there is a world of difference. It also says to not bash or attack people.

My...I just dont understand this group of "proffesional adults"...I think there is a click here cuz I do see a lot of contradictions with many of the members here.

I'm sorry Titlegal...but it is "disguesting" and I'm sorry you can't see it. Maybe you need to step back and really re think this. I don't mean to be 'attacking" you cuz I know you are "popular" here...however, it is still no excuse of the behavior that many of you have here.

This community really lacks POSITIVE support. Its just to negative. And we call ourselves professional adults?

My post was a flip answer to another anonymous attacking Charm....seems Charm wears a big red target on her back lately, for reasons I can figure out, and it annoyed me. These anonymous shots at forum members are just cowardly and stupid.

Hence the post about the "Rules" to anonymous...I thought a reference to the Rules would be so obviously ridiculous that no one would take it seriously, which was my intent, not to offend you. My apologies.
