Picking up the accent

Just curious - does anyone else ever leave a signing only to realize that you have begun to mimic the accent of your borrowers? I keep finding myself doing that - especially at EOM. I wonder if they notice? i hope they don't think I'm poking fun...

Did the same thing to a NotRot-er who called me Friday night. Sorry I didn't catch your name - but I'm glad you called. I have yet to get a return call from the social worker handling my elder abuse case. I'll check on her again this week.

I did several closings back to back with a Spanish speaking translator. I know a good bit of the language when I hear it as most Texans do...however, by the end of four hours of hearing the same information repeated, i.e., "This is your security instrument. It's the document filed at the courthouse and will publically note that this lender has an interest in your property." and my translator would repeat it everytime...after that I began to think the Spanish words.

It was enlightening to realize that the language could come that easily, IF you learned it in succinct repetitive sentences. I had pretended not to know any Spanish, but about 11 pm I was so tired I began to respond to the questions with yes or no.

When the man who was really funny and had been making jokes about things in Spanish asked for la pluma and I handed him a pen. His daughter started laughing because he got the funniest look on his face. He wondered how much I knew about what he had said...well, quite a bit, actually. LOL

I actually like to listen to the Jerry Springers of the Spanish speaking channels.

I must be a mynah bird at heart or something, I have to stop myself from doing it on the phone to callers from Texas (one of our vendors) or with the cashier at the market (Australian) before I embarrass myself when they tell me to stop it.
