REALLY last minute signings (NOT!)

I got a call today at 9:01 p.m. to do a signing (e-docs, of course!) tonight! I was very close to home and just leaving my last signing; so, I said yes (rather than stopping at that nice little Mexican restaurant and getting dinner and a refreshing beverage!) They e-mailed me docs, but no order with borrower's phone number. So I start printing docs, and, as soon as the application comes out of the printer (about 9:23), I call the borrowers. SURPRISE, SURPRISE, the borrowers are not expecting me this evening and they have no intention of closing tonight as they have been trying since last week to get figures out of the lender. (They don't even know the loan amount!) WHAT PLANET DO THESE LOAN OFFICERS COME FROM?!?!?! To say the least, this loan did not close and I will be invoicing for my time and printing. (I know: "Good luck getting paid!"Wink

As if that wasn't last minute enough, I get a call at 11:03 p.m. (yes, 11:03 p.m.) to close a loan (e-docs) tonight! (Let's see: receive and print docs, drive...by midnight! Yeah...sure!) I just turned it down. I didn't even bother to throw out a ridiculous number for my fee.

By the way, have any of you ever taken a new order that late at night for a same day closing, and, if so and you don't mind telling me, what did you charge? Others, who haven't done, this, what would you charge? I'm just curious, because I have, honestly, never gotten an order that late (although I have started a closing at 11:45 p.m.).

If you would prefer to e-mail me rather than post, please send your opinion to [e-mail address]

Halloween 2002, I received a call at 9:15 pm for whenever I could get there. That was the latest request for a same day closing.

Some of the west coast signing companies used to call at midnight for closings further out. A lot of them just don't think.

Both calls I got were clear about the time zone and clear about what they were asking for! I never ceased to be amazed, but I am no longer surprised!

If you advertise 24hr service, then they do think and expect that you may be available
just a thought

My latest call

came at 1050 pm. I did the signing and charged $300. It was 4.5 miles from me.
Very quick signing. I told them we had to be done by 12 pm and then I could help them with any questions.
When they had a question I made sure we called the LO everytime. I thought it might give him a clue about setting apointments and having paperwork done on time etc. If we are up signing he can be up answering questions. In his defense he did have the cell on and was cheerful about any questions they had (2).

I've started loan signings at 11:45 p.m.; however, I did have the order before 11:03 p.m.! I'm a late night owl, so the call didn't bother me: I just figured that, if the lender was unable to get it's act together before 11 p.m. at EOM, the whole thing would probably be a disaster from start to finish!

Yes, you probably need to make a notation in your profile about when to call.

I've never received an order that late, but if I were to get one, I'd add at least $50 to whatever you and the SS were to agree on. That's my advice, anyway.
