Trivia Time!! OT

I dont know what I got myself into hereSmile. We (my family, including the kids, and a few friends) are going to play trivia this year. Here in Stevens Point, we hold the "worlds" largest Trivia Game. Ive played on other teams but this time we are actually hosting a team. Its 60 hours, straight thru, of questions which are broadcast over our University radio station, and other wacky ways to get points. Some people are pretty serious about the game and others its just all for fun. Its sure to be an interesting weekend!! Its been known to get pretty crazy. There are people who actually stay up all weekend. Wish us luck everyone and have a good weekend.

Now this is cool. I love trivia games. No one wants to play Trivial Pursuit with me anymore. Maybe I'll go there. Smile

Its funny you should mention wanting to play. I was trying to think of a way for anyone on here, to be able to play. Im going to call my techy brother in law and see if he can come up with an idea. Maybe by MSN chat or something. It would be SUPER COOL, if we, an unknown team that came out of the blue, beat the team that has been winning for about 15 years. Any ideas anyone or is anyone interested in playing?

As much as I like to play, you need to butter up my Aunt Gigi (LilyMD). She is like this major Jeopardy person. Everyone calls her when the radio has a trivia question.

A team would be great.

Well, I just spoke with my brother in law and he said it would be easy to set up a chat for this. He is coming up tonight. We already have the team registered and the name is "Too Much Canned Heat, Cant Eat" Dont ask me, my significant other came up with it, and I think it has something to do with his collage days and Im not quite sure I want to go there!!LOL I think there is a website for this. Im going to check it out right now. If anyone is interested, give me an email and we will go from there.

Re: Trivia Time!! OT Canned Heat - as in the little cans of

alcohol that are used for heating chafing dishes etc. These were used by individuals who were short on cash to get drunk. This form of alcohol along with propolene glycos (antifreeze) was used primarily by indigents who frequently were found dead as a result of ingestion. While people joke about having canned heat parties I never know of anyone who actually used it. By the way Trivia is one of my absolute favorite pasttimes. Good luck to you with your team.

Re: Canned Heat - Was'nt that a band too?Still is Teddy

I had them on my stage a couple of years ago along with the Dave (Panama Red) Nelson Band. Always drew well in this area and of course Dave who used to play with Jerry Garcia was a regular at our place. Got Jerry too a couple of times before he died! You can find Canned Heat (the band) at:

Hey Charles,

Wasn't Dave Nelson a part of New Riders of the Purple Sage? I think they recorded Panama Red. But I believe the tune was written by Peter Rowan and performed first by Old and In The Way, which also included Garcia. Not to say it wasn't also done by the David Nelson Band, but pretty sure it's Rowan's. Wow, showing my age.

Did I forget to mention the "great" music the station plays all weekend for the trivia game? Its one of the best parts of the trivia weekend. Any takers on playing at all?? It goes from 6PM Friday till 12PM Sunday.

Re: Trivia Time!! LilyMD

I was just going to reply on your post up above for killing time waiting on dox, play some trivia while your waiting. Yes, it is continuous play. 60 hours on trivia questions, running questions, and the trivia stone. There are 3 hundred and some teams with over 3000 people so far and registration is not over. The link to check it out is http://www.90fmtrivia.org/. My brother in law is coming up tonight and we are going to try and set up a chat room for anyone who wants to play. You can listen online to the contest. Check it out on the website.
As far as a team, we have one ready to go. Thats what all the "canned heat" discussion is about.

Right on Pat

David Nelson was a member of the New Riders of the Purple Sage and still is as much as many of their members are. You are right about Peter Rowan, I had forgotten he had written the piece especially since David Nelson was going around with that as his claim to fame. The David Nelso Trio still does Panama Red as part of their song list. Trivia on!
