Why are there so many new SA's?
The market is horrible, interest rates keep going up, the refinance market is dwindling to a trickles. This happens every few years, and those of us that have been in this industry for awhile know that there are lots of sink of swim times. Where are all these new signing agents coming from? And why now, when the market is at it's worst since 1994?

Because they see $$$$ signs when they read ads on websites that say if they become a NSA they can make $100,000/year. Unfortunately they don't get all of the facts!

Call the NNA and ask them! In California alone they hold about 40-50 training seminars statewide, every month. There are around four notaries that reside within three blocks from my house.

I do a lot of general notarizations
Hello,
I have a couple of mortgage companies I work with on a regular basis. For the rest of the time, I do a lot of general notarizations. In my opinion, they are much better... i charge usual $10 per sig, and give a bulk signature discount as well. I also charge a travel fee. So far since Sunday I've done 8 Signatures (3 different signings) and have another 8 signatures to be notarized scheduled for Friday evening and 2 more for Saturday morning.
Every Tom, Dick and Harry and their parents and brothers and sisters seem to be a Notary these days... No offense to any Toms, Dicks or Harrys....

The same may have been said when you started.
When I started about 3 years ago the old established guy around here, laughed and said he'd drive me out within a year. Well I'm still here and he had to move on to other endeavors. NcLisa the reason people keep coming to do this is very simple, they have run the math in their heads and they are going to give it the old American try. Ain't America great?

I became a Notary to make a little bit of extra money on the side... I have a FT job and am doing this part time, and even though there are 1325 notaries within 20 miles of my Zip code I've been doing pretty good...
As for Loan Signings, there are a couple of companies that have been giving me some work regularly, but I make more profit doing the general notarizations + travel fees.
I'm also out there, marketing myself and trying to drum up new business.... There are a lot of notaries that are just notaries for the sake of being a notary (or may be they are being notaries for work related stuff only).

"how many are actually cnsa's?"
The "C" doesn't make a difference. I've never been certified by anybody and have been earning a full time living from it for over 2 years now. The "C" might be a good tool for learning HOW to do the job, but it's pretty meaningless beyond that.
