business cards

I finally got my business cards and usually send them back with loan packages. Does anyone else do that? I got a call from a TC today who I did work for through an SS last week. The TC called me directly this time.

I always include a business card in case the TC has any questions regarding the docs. While I would never overtly solicit a TC that I worked for thru an SS, if the TC chooses to contact me directly down the road, then that's THEIR choice. I've had a number of TC's contact me for direct work after they have dumped the SS they were previously using.

That's basically why I included the card too.

I received a call from a TC, but did not include business card due the fact that a SS had contacted me for the closing. TC received my number from the cover letter that was attached to the documents. When I received the call, I knew it came from the closing I did for this particular SS and I politely advised the TC to please call SS as that is who I was contracted with.

The SS turned around and called me to thank me for being so loyal to them and of course I received the signing anyway. It may not have been for the fee that the TC would have paid me, but this SS pays well and gives me alot of signings in my area.

I used to include my business cards with documents for CS reasons, but there was a debate on NOT ROT awhile ago that made me rethink that. I only send them out if a TC hires me direct and that is where the docs are going back to. If a SS hires me and docs are going back to a TC, I will not include the business card.

Jersey Boy is correct - If you search for Lisa Bittner's posts and maybe Sherry's posts (from SLB) you'll find that it is taken as a solicitation of client's business.

When I first started I used to include a letter in the return package stating that if they liked my service to please let XYZ Signing Service know. I did that once in a package for Negrete's Notaries and the Title Co. told Tony that I was soliciting them. I really hated that. Tony kept on using me though and I appreciated that.

Even though it sounds like a good idea to send your card back with docs (in case TC has ?'s) if you were hired by SS, it may appear to the SA as innocent. I only send card when hired by TC, wouldn't want to take the chance of losing a good relationship.. If there is a problem, I'm quite sure TC would call the SS.

I think that is of poor taste.

If you say that is not drumming up business than your not being honest. You say you put your card in with the docs - just incase TC has a question...but your really thinking....Maybe if I put my card in here with the docs, the TC might call me directly next time. Tis' just not right

Tsk…tsk…tsk..

I will only send back a business card with the docs, if they are going to the company that hired me. I feel it is inappropriate to send back a business card with the docs if they are going somewhere other than the hiring company.

If you want TC business, solicit them on your own dime...not someone else's.

Is this a way to keep SOX from calling you?

Include your business card with the docs and SOX will think you're trying to steal their clients. Then SOX would never call you again! Might be worth doing a free (since SOX doesn't pay) closing to get out of the SOX data base!

I've seen a form in the loan docs that actually wants notary information and signed too so that they can call if there is any problem.
