GF ignore, you're in CA.
and you don't need it (unless the TD is recording elsewhere).
Many times, national lenders include them in their docs, and it's not necessary for CA.

(sigh) Caution, please, newbies reading this thread!
CA may not require witnesses on real estate transactions, but other states DO! Notary Signing Agents MUST be aware of the laws for the state(s) which they serve. CT, for example, allows the Notary to be one of the two REQUIRED witnesses.
If you are not *absolutely sure* about your state (or the state in which the property is located), find out before going to the signing table.

In fear of being redundant
2006 State Witness Requirements (as determined by PROPERTY LOCATION) -------------------------------------------------------------------- CT - 2 witnesses, one can be the notary FL - 2 witnesses, one can be the notary - DEEDS ONLY GA - 2 witnesses, one MUST be the notary LA - 2 witnesses, CANNOT be the notary SC - 2 witnesses, one can be the notary
NOTES: 1) FL - Mortgages DO NOT require witnesses, DEEDS (QuitClaim, Warranty, etc.) do. 2) Lenders may require witnesses, even though there is no state requirement.

Citibank requires 2 witnesses in AR... not a witness state. Is Citibank confused or do they require witnesses in all non-witness states?

Re: yes, redundant....
I replied to GL_CA with the question:
Are you in a witness state?
I know what states are and what states are not. Everyone should know this. I asked the question so GL_CA would put forth an effort to *find* the answer. Most answers are just one click away.

Re: yes, redundant....
LOL BP. Just when you think the question is answered satisfactorily... someone answers *more* satisfactorily...or is that more thoroughly? More better? or just More? Hm. Either way, good that the answers are here!
