Advice

HI I am a new notary and have done 3 closings for 3 different companies. How long should I wait for my payment before I start to contact them? I have read about many non paying signing companies and just would like some feedback on what to do if it happens to me. Thanks everyone!

Depends on which companies they are. Some say they pay in 30 days, some 45 days.
If you want to name the companies, maybe someone who has worked with them can tell you roughly when you can expect to receive your check.

Hi, I usually wait 45 days before I start calling about my money.. After 60 days I send a demand letter and that usually does the trick, but you do get some companies that won't pay for 90 to 120 days.. good luck!

I usually ask a new company two questions either before or right after I complete a signing:

1. What do you need from me after the signing is complete (some want invoices mailed or faxed, some want you to fill out a form online, etc.)
2. When should I expect payment? (No point hounding a 45 day company after 30 days - but no point waiting until 60 days has passed to inquire if the company normally pays its SAs when the loan funds, either.)

Did you get a sign up package from them?

Sometimes their payment terms are shown in the original sign up package. Sometimes it's on your order.

Some notaries start freaking after 30 days, but I really don't worry about it until past 60. Especially if it's a company that has a good rep. Use the orange search button and see if anyone's had any payment issues with these companies.
