Auto Cool

Last week or so there was a thread about the "as seen on tv" auto cool. Many said they were going to purchase, just wondering if they worked.

It does seem to help but you need one in front and back if your car sits in the sun all day. Also you must be very careful after placing it in the window not to adjust too much as it might (and has)fall out of the window.

Easy to install. Good luck!

I saw that commercial and started to think about buying one. Then, I
tried to figure out WHY it would work. I mean, two cars in a parking lot
and the one with the Auto Cool is 30 or so degrees cooler that the one
without, but of course the experiment was done with a low outside
temp. Fantastic!! but wait. If the outside temp is 100 degrees and if the
thing actually works, it'll be 100 degrees in the car, albeit much cooler
than the car without it, but how can that be? The car is closed, so no
outside air can enter the car, and the sun is still beating down. OK, open
a window a little. Sun's still beating down, and the little fan can't really pull
loads of air into the car. So, maybe, the inside temp is 15 degrees cooler than
the car with out that gadget. Great! But the car without it is 140 degrees, so
the car with it is 125.
Moral? Buy a new car with a remote starter and a big A/C. After all, as a SA,
you're making 100K a year...

I think the best you could hope for would be for the inside and outside temperature to be the same. I'd worry about security, though, if I had computers, etc. in the car. I haven't seen the Auto Cool in person, but it looks like you essentially have to leave the window cracked open a tad to accomodate the hanger.

Re: Auto Cool...An investigative reporter just did a test on

this product last week and reported the results on the news here in Phoenix. He used 3 identical cars. One with no sun protection, one with a sunshade and one with Auto Cool. It was 110 degrees in PX at the time. The one with the sunshade was 5 degrees cooler than the one with the Auto Cool. The Auto Cool car was the same temp (140 degrees inside) as the one with no sun protection.

Re: Auto Cool...An investigative reporter just did a test on

I bought 2 of these to try and am not impressed. It may be a couple of degrees cooler but not worth while. The fan is so small and weak it it simply cannot move enough air and as mentioned before, if the temperature outside is hot, there is no way it could possibly be cooler in the car than the outside temperature. I think the concept is a good idea, but the fan would have to be much more powerful. Also, you are not supposed to leave them in the windows while you are driving due to visibility issues. I put mine in my passenger windows in the back so I do leave them in, but if you DID have to move them in and out of the windows in the front, this would be a serious hassle each time you stopped to get in or out of the car. Since they I have been leaving them in the back windows now, the lack of a total seal around the fan and the weatherstripping causes noise while driving. All in all, not worth the money.
