BBB

I sent a report to the CO BBB and got back an email this morning referring me to the labor dept. Anyone else run into this?

You don't say what you reported to the BBB, and it could be that it falls into a category that they think would best be handled by another source (example: debt collections). Below are the Complaint Acceptance Guidelines for the BBB.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Complaint Acceptance Guidelines
The BBB will not process anonymous complaints.

Complaints must include a company name and sufficient information to forward the complaint to the company.

The complaint must involve a consumer-to-business or business-to-business transaction that relates to the advertisement or sale of a product or service.

Some types of complaints are more effectively handled by government agencies with specific expertise, or the legal system. Therefore, Better Business Bureaus generally do not handle complaints involving:

employment practices

allegations of discrimination or violation of statutory/constitutional rights

the quality of professional services (e.g., by lawyers or physicians) - however Bureaus DO handle complaints concerning professionals' business practices (e.g., billing)

debt collection (where no other buyer/seller issues are involved)

matters which are or have previously been in litigation

I believe I put it in the credit/billing problems.

The Colorado BBB has these options listed.

misleading advertising, improper selling practices, non-delivery of goods or services, misrepresentation, guarantees or warranty issues, unsatisfactory service, credit/billing problems, tenant-landlord disputes, or contracts not fulfilled.

Wouldn't that be the correct place to file it? Maybe contracts not fulfilled?

I'm assuming you reported them due to non-payment, so that could be contracts not fulfilled. IMO they didn't fulfill their end of the contract.

See my response below. We'll see what happens. Thanks for taking an interest, it's the first time for me and I'm still feeling my way. Thanks again!

It sounds to me like whomever read your complaint misunderstood it to be involving an employee/employer issue. You might want to try again, and be very concise with that?

Actually I thought I had been. There was an email included with the original reply so I sent the woman an email asking her that very question. I checked the dept of labor and they cannot help with independent contractor issues, so I also stated that in the email. We'll see what happens, if all else fails, Ill just report it again under contracts and try to make it crystal clear. First time I've had to do this so iti's a learning curve I suppose. The other report I made hasn't been "kicked" back to me, but that was for CA. Thanks for the help!

Received returned email

and the woman said that someone opened the case using her name and that they can help me. I made the situation clear to her. So yay, success for now.
