Better Business Bureau
Does anyone belong to the BBB? I just received a solicitation phone call & up to this point I'd never really given them any consideration for being a member. $350.00 per year is their annual membership fee & I'm uncertain as to whether it's a wise investment or not. Thanks for any feedback.

Yep. Figured it was one way to show that we stand by our reputation and to show our transparency. I also look at it as a way of establishing yourself with the community and as a business itself. I don't think it did anything for bringing in business though.

I belong to the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, and have for years. The dues are about $300 per year.
The reason I first signed up was because I needed health care, and belonging to them allowed me access to unbelievable discounts from BC/BS, Fallon, Harvard Pilgrim, Tufts, etc.
I have obtained Notary business from being listed as a member. These are nice easy jobs that pay well -- every company I've gone to has my check ready right then and there.

I belong to the San Diego BBB and find it is worth the cost for two reasons. One, it is a credibility "thing" and two, it has brought be more business because of the "credibility" and because, as a member, I market to other BBB businesses and offer a 10% discount on services. My theory on membership fees for any organization is that if is "around $365" per year, that's $1.00/day - worth it!

I like your rule of thumb about $1/day/yr. Makes sense! n/m
