Better Business Bureau Call

I had a call on my cell phone from someone saying they were the Better Business Bureau, asking me to advertise on their website for $1 a day. I asked if they would send me more info in the mail, and they said no. Has anyone else received these calls? Just wondering....

Re: Better Business Bureau Call - be cautious...

Sounds "hoaxy" to me. I belong to the BBB and they WILL send, fax or email you info! I just posted a couple of days ago about the BBB and that if you break down the annual cost it comes to about $1.00 a day. Sounds like someone is picking up on that as a hoax.

Dawn Re: Better Business Bureau Call

Dawn,

About two weeks ago, I also received a call from someone stating that
he was a representative of the BBB. Said that the BBB has a new business
category which caters to notaries. Explained that the BBB membership includes
both collection assistance for notaries, as well as legal representation
if needed (all with no additional fees). Gave me his information
(although I have not verified anything as of yet).

I have received this call 3 times and they said it was $395

to advertise on their website but that they guarantee a lot of business. For that cost, I didnt take the risk.

I got the same call except I was told the fee was a $365.00.
Maybe I don't get it but I can't imagine getting any bussiness for a Notary from the Better Business Bureau.

Re: I am following up on this with BBB...

I have emailed the BBB about this and will let you know what I find out.

They don't "cater" to certain professions!

And as far as "collections" and "legal representation", their membership services has what is called Dispute Resolution. Directly from the BBB website is states: "Dispute Resolution: This optional free service helps you resolve complaints quickly and maintain customer loyalty through binding arbitration. Save costly legal fees and your valuable time. "

Barbara, Re: I am following up on this with BBB...

Barbara,

The representative explained that there was a new business section which "catered"
to notaries. He specifically stated that there were attorneys available for individual legal assistance. He did not mention an arbitration process. Of course he probably wanted to make a quick sale. As I told him, I'm not interested now, but may take him up on his offer,
at a later date.

I haven't the inclination to contact the BBB, because currently, I am not interested.
I am already associated with many organizations. Next year, when it's time to renew
(or terminate) my various memberships, I might join the BBB.

Got the call 2X yesterday. Southern CA BBB. Caller from Reseda. Web Site looks like I would never find a listing for a Notary if I wanted one. I'll save my $1 per day and go out to dinner.
