Did you get this email? A warning

This is about an email I received today that I just have to share. In the subject line, it said simply "National Notary Association" (which I haven't been a member of for a few years now). Here's the body of the message:

"The Notary industry is becoming much more competitive, but if you offer mobile services and digital resources you have an edge. This is where we come in. If you had ever thought of having an official legitimate website for your Notary business, this is the time. We offer a full featured site along with a merchant account so your clients can pay on demand right on your site with credit/debit cards and even electronic checks. There is no better, faster, and more efficient way to do Notary signing. You will have much more time to spend on what's really
important;family. You will have the chance to make the vision in your mind about your website come to a reality, as we have designers and programmers working 24/7/365. Your satisfaction is guaranteed. We will put up your site free of charge for 15 days, just to make sure you're happy. All this sounds expensive, not with us. Our no bs approach to business and our systematic hosting plan make it affordable. Only $199 for the first year and $99 thereafter. Everything is customizable, so please feel free to contact me. This offer is good for a limited time to California licensed notaries only. Take a look at this sample:"

(I'm not going to do him a favor and include his link.) I guess I was in a bit of a feisty mood, but with a short amount of time, so I sent back this quick reply:

"What - if anything - does your company have to do with the National Notary Association? Also, I don't see how accepting credit cards makes notary signing "better, faster, and more efficient"... Few, if any, companies I do business with make payments by credit card." [BTW, I already have access to acceptance of credit cards if I choose to do so.]

And here's the response I received, which is why I am posting this at all:

"Janet,
1. The Subject is to catch your attention. We never claimed we were
affiliated with the NNA.
2. You are doing small time business, you don't see the big picture in
notary signing.
You can have rookie notaries under you with the type of business we
can bring you, then you will see the benefit of charging via CC."

I decided that this clueless wonder (who knows nothing about me that isn't public record) is someone I would not want to be associated with on any level - even for an inexpensive website! If his first contact begins with a deception, I can only shudder to think what it might be like doing business on an ongoing basis. If you received this, too, I suggest hitting the delete button as I have now done....

they are like vultures

If I didn't know what I now know with more than 3 years experience, I'd have took the bait.
He obviously doesn't understand the industry. Not that it isn't a good idea.... but let's face it.
We have a hard enough time collecting net 30, let alone via CC.
I never had any company offer to pay via CC or paypal.
Don't fall for this one, newbies. It won't be to your advantage.

I will bet the NNA would not be happy to hear about this. Almost every week solicitors call me asking if I take credit cards and wanting me to sign up with them. No thanks. Everyone I deal with either pays by check or cash. I do have Paypal if I really need a credit card payment.
