Fed Ex just found a new way to piss me off
I dropped 2 packages yesterday in the drop box in front of a Fed Ex facility. This morning I get 2 phone calls because the packages were never delivered.
It turns out that Fed Ex deliberately held the packages because I left the sender information blank, even though they were properly addressed and had the recipient's account number on them. The supervisor that I spoke to told me that that's always been their policy to do so, and that it didn't matter that they hadn't once done it in the past 3 years with the 2000 + Fed Ex packages I've sent the exact same way. That they were just delivered "as a courtesy". Every single time. And she confirmed that if I hadn't called to find out what was going on, they would have never attempted to deliver them simply because the label wasn't completely filled out. Gotta love these employees who strive so hard to provide good customer service, huh?
So I guess lesson learned. From now on I'll just repeat the recipient's information in the sender box instead of leaving it blank.

I have put the send inf in the from space for 5 years now. Also prevents them from billing you by mistake. That is how I learned my lesson.

Don't EVEN get me started on my BestBuy experience this morning. I agree, customer service went out with the 90's.

Re: Customer Service
True story. A few years back I went to Circuit City to shop for something. I was wearing an old t-shirt and sweatpants & not looking particularly attractive that day (I admit it). Anyway, I couldn't get the time of day for a wall clock.
Went back after work a few days later, wearing a blouse & mini skirt & I was approached by 4-5 different salespeople asking if I needed any help. By then, I didn't.
Customer service is a myth...try it for yourself. I wasn't even trying to do any kind of sociology test...

Re: Customer Service
Sorry to hear about that at Circuit City. Doesn't surprise me though. I won't be going back there after issues I've had with them. Most employees there only care about spending money or commissions. I had some guy tell me that Dell's were horrible computers and he had nothing but problems. That said, customer service is not a myth. I know, I saw it everyday when I worked for Marriott (over 5 yrs). Are there people who have CS jobs that shouldn't? Absolutely! It all depends all the individual employee and the attitude of their supervisor/manager.

No matter how hard that I try to write neatly,....
the only legible info in the "sender section" is the bwr's name and (escrow ) # in the billing referernce section, my cell # , city, state and ZIP Looks good at first glance, but they can never quite read my name and address. That way they can call me if there is a problem, and have the origin ZIP if needed. Just can't bill charges to me. Airborne/DHL is notorious for billing to sender for any reason that may feel good to them at the moment.

Are they talking sender info as in name, address, city, state, zip, etc? Why wouldnt you write that on a package? My other question is why would the accept packages without it living in a post Unabomber, 9/11, and anthrax attack world? Seems a little careless.

Jahari - if you put YOUR info on the Fedex label sender part, you will one day find yourself holding a bill for it.
It's a lesson everyone has to learn before deciding to do this. I make my labels out with the sender and receiver the same. Somewhere in the sender info I put FR: notary /bwr name or FR: notary /file no. You'll burned one day if you do not. No matter what, you will lose $10 if you have a fedex a/c.

Yep, that happened to me too. Ever since, I put borrowers info for sender. That way IF theres a problem, they have another addy to shoot for, but I won't get charged for it.

never left it blank, but accidentally left off the receiver's acct number once....once! They charged me.

I transposed a number on the acct. number of the title company and I had put the borrowers information as the sender. The sender had to pay the charges and I wound up paying the Fedex fee.
From now on I will do what I had done for the past several years and put the sender and the receiver with the same name and address.

I do it similarly to you, also. My name on the "from" line, but the rest is the recipient's info, including phone, if I have one. I'll put the borrower info name or file # under "internal reference", but I like the idea of adding it after my name.
Also, I usually drop off at a staffed location. I inquired one time about a drop box in from of a staffed location (my usual drop-off spot) that's been around since before the FedEx/Kinko's merge. They said that the drop box in the front was picked up by someone else - and may not be picked up at all on Saturdays, even though they are open from 9:00 - 5:00! No more drop boxes for me, if there's anyway I can avoid it.

See your point , and for a few weeks after 9-11.....
they were asking for ID when you dropped off a pkg. If you had an evil intent, however, what would stop you from showing sender as: "Michael J Mouse Magic Kingdom Orlando , Fl xxxxxx" I'm sure pkg would go through system with no problemo There is no reason that TC/lender etc can not generate a label and either enclose it w/dox or e-mail/fax it to NSA Probably cheaper because fedex/ups give a discount for this, makes sure pkg goes to correct place, lets then track pkg without waiting for tk # from NSA, saves time for NSA, etc. Many companies do this. I wish that they all did so.

I print all my airbills off fedex.com. I've got the company addresses & their acct/billing info saved in the profiles. I've never accidently been charged. Even the post office is leary about mail without a return address.

I, also, use the FedEx Ship Manager site to prepare/print labels. If the recipient's account number is good, you get a label, if not it'll tell you.
If I have to manually prepare a label, I put the borrower's name, address and phone number as the sender, I have never put my name as the sender on the label in any way shape or form. I do, however, put the borrower's last name and escrow/title/file number in the internal reference field when I can.
I've not had one come back to charge me
