Good Morning and Happy day One!
Ok, so I slipped and smoked one stinkin cigarette yesterday.... I HAD TO.
There was a very unexpected and very horrible death in the family yesterday. Unfortunately since all of my wife's family was in "basket-case-land" I had to be the "rational/logical" one and take care of some business that I REALLY didn't want to take care of.
Needless to say, after completing the task... I tore off the patch and asked for a cigarette. So, If I don't smoke anymore than just than one yesterday, do I have to start the day count all over again?

This is one of those questions that fits the "never ask a question you don't already know the answer to" the lawyers all talk about. Good luck JB, stress has a nasty way of ruining the best laid plans.

Sorry to hear about your loss. In your time of sadness just remember this:
- A Saint is just a Sinner who fell down aaaand got up....
Just start over my friend. You just may have several Day Ones before you totally kick the habit. Its your willingness that matters. I will keep you in my prayers.

Re: Good Morning and Happy day One! JB....
I'm sorry to hear what happened in your wife's family. We'll be thinking about them. Hey! as far as day 1-- at least you have the initiative to continue on even with "falling off the wagon" ( and falling off for a very good reason!) . It's rough, and i'm sure the next little while will be stressful for you with everything that is going on, hang in there! Good luck!

I agree keep counting
Just stand up, brush off those pants legs and keep on the path.
Sorry for your loss. If all you did that you regret is have one smoke through your families ordeal I would say you handled yourself quite well.

Jersey, I am also sorry to hear of your loss. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. I am only on my second cup of java. Was not paying attention.

Sorry for your loss but don't let the none smoking get you down. Put the patch back on and think when you have the urge to smoke. If I take that cigarette will it change the situation? Probably not,Take a couple of deep breaths, drink a glass of OJ go brush your teeth. It is so easy to fall back to something you enjoyed and felt comfort with. Good Luck.

Four Funerals and two weddings
First...Dont' beat yourself up..it's a waste of time and you would not beat up on a friend at a time like this...so give yourself the same love. Second....I used a hynosis tape that I bought for $1.00 at the dollar store almost 15 years ago. I fell asleep while I was listening to it...so I still smoke when I'm dreaming. Sometimes when I really want a ciggy I just take a moment and picture myself sitting on the front porch smoking and kind of go there for a bit. Then I feel better. Once you get past the nicotine..it's the best friend you still wish you could visit when things get bad...so take the "in your dreams" visit. See if that works. Third: keep gum, chewy candy on had at all times. We have been through the ringer in the last six months with funerals and weddings....and I have visited the front porch of my first house in my mind many times Not to mention the ice cream and potato chips. Don't go back...On cig did not mess you up.... You went a whole day with only one cig and it was an awful day. Pat yourself on the back.

Re: Four Funerals and two weddings
Remember the old saying " I can quit anytime I want to. I have done it a hundred times"! The point is that it is not unusual to back slide. Stay the course and keep on doing what worked for you! My Uncle was a drug and alchohol counselor at the Gables In Rochester , MN for many years. He was also a recovering alcoholic, a well respected Pastor and sat on the certification board for the State. He worked with some folks with bad addictions. He told me that quitting smoking was harder than quitting the other addictions for most people. It was for him but he did it. He said the committment to quit is paramount. Don't beat yourself up or dwell on the the backslide. Every mountain has its top, then its all downhill.
