Had my magnetic sign stolen today.

Went to put my groceries in the back of my Expedition and notice my sign wasn't there. I am not sure where I lost it since I was doing signings and errands today but I guess when I get a new one, I will have to take it on and off when I am not in the car from now on. Just a FYI for those of you who also have them. Just makes me wonder who would want it- kids as a prank or competition.

I lost mine in a car wash

But recovered it.
If you recently washed your car, you may want to check there first.
I have to remind myself to remove it when I wash it, LOL
They aren't cheap!

Re: I lost mine in a car wash

Same here, I'm assuming, but didn't realize until a couple days later and went back to the car wash and it wasn't anywhere to be found or turned in, so I didn't know whether I had lost it there or if someone had stolen it.

Re: I lost mine in a car wash

I have always taken mine off before going through the car wash but I could see how that could happen. Mine always stayed on really well and I haven't had the car washed slnce the beginning of the week. Oh well. I used to take it on and off when I first got it but got lazy and trusting that no one would want it with my name on it.

AND ICE....I have a ritual when I pull up to the car wash, I have to unload all the sh?? I carry in the car anyway prior to handing over the car.....it all goes in the trunk so the signs are the last to come off.....and in the trunk they also go.....

Probably some odd place.....

When I was a realtor I saw mine fly off...and stick to the grill of the truck behind me. He was nice enough to stop.

Another option.

With all due defference to PAW (it only took me about 5 clicks my first night to figure out what a venerated member he is.... by my third day I had a response from him to a post and I understand why)... anyway...

If you want the sign on all the time, even when you go to the opera, you might consider having a sign maker put the vinyl lettering directly on your rig. It may be cheaper than the first magnetic sign, it's almost certainly cheaper than the second. And it looks better too. Vinyl letters can be removed to sell the car... if you leave em on a decade or two there's likely to be paint fade issues.

Like everything else, the magnetic signs have their advantages, but loosing of the damn things is pretty common.

On the edge in the middle

Watsonville... the town between Monterey and Santa Cruz that all your strawberries come from.

Re: On the edge in the middle

Too funny... Not sure I've heard Watsonville described as on the edge and in the middle before. I'm not too far from you. San Martin next to the Garlic Capitol of the World. I can still smell the garlic from the festival. Nice to make you aquaintance.

Lunch on me

I've got an office in Hollister and go that way pretty often. In fact gotta go this afternoon or tommorow. Closing a RE deal this month WHOOPEE...

Actually I don't live that close to the edge. Look out your window, see those mountains? No not those... look West. My property (okay the logging company I rent from's property) goes from Corralitos to the summit... 1500 acres of redwoods, with a pond and too many kinds of animals to count... and they rent the house on it to little ole me for $1,000 cause they like tennants that take care of the place and don't belly ache about the dust.

Serious, its a bit out of my way, but I'd pay a steak sandwich for a chat with someone who's been down this road I'm lookin up.

Never lost one ...

>>> Like everything else, the magnetic signs have their advantages, but loosing of the damn things is pretty common. <<<

In more than 7 years using this particular type of sign, I have never lost one due to anything but my own carelessness. That is, I've never had one blow off (including using them on the race track), fall off by going over bumps, or "wash" off during heavy, torrential rains. (They do come off if rubbed by the automatic car wash scrubbers or the high-intensity jet-nozzle spray found in some 'touchless' car washes.)

I will admit that some makes or manufactured signs may be more prone to being lost, I can honestly say that is not the case with the materials used in the signs that I offer.

As for applying the vinyl directly to the vehicle, this would certainly work. My racing stripes are applied vinyl and never come off, even in the car wash. But, they are more or less permanent, not easily removed, and actually may damage the finish is removed improperly. (Assuming you and I are talking about the same application.)

I have one of the ones that is permanent

PAW I put one of them on a side window and would like to put another one of your signs to replace it. Can you remove one of them from a window?

To add insult to injury...

I had a lady from a newspaper call today, asked some questions and said she wanted to take a picture of me by my sign on my car for an article she is doing on mobile notaries. Why couldn't she have called a week ago. JL I am in Vista - North San Diego.
