I screwed up. Toner/Printer help please.

In a rush to fill a cartridge tonight, I picked up the wrong bottle of toner and ended up putting Sumsung toner in my HP cartridge. I did not put in a full bottle only about 1/4. Pages are printing with a heavy gray covering of toner.

Have I ruined the cartridge or the printer? Can I knock out the bad tonner and refill with the right toner?

Whew! Any chance that you can take out the toner, blow everything out then replace the toner. Not sure if that will work Bec, but it's worth a try in my opinion.

I feel like such a MoMo! I'm going to try to blow it out tomorrow. I just hope I can still use the cartridge, it's only been filled one time before tonight.

NO...NO...NO

Toss the damn cartridge, you've done enough damage to the printer's fuser with the wrong toner. Now you want to suck it into your lung by blowing it. What kind of printer is it? Check to see if the printer has a cleaning feature b/c my HP4100 and other models do.

Re: NO...NO...NO

I agree. DO NOT USE THAT CARTRIDGE. The toner "formula" is wrong and may cause further damage by using it, and the cartridge may already be damaged which may damage the printer itself.

Even if you tried, you could not dump out all the toner and blow it out of the drum and fuser assemblies.

Everyone is talking about refilling cart. I have a Brother 5150. With the price of these things, how do you refill? The last one I bought was $97.00. Need to get on the interet sites

Re: NO...NO...NO

Go to ebay and search for your timer cartridge. I also have a Brother and pay about $35.00 per cartridge and $48 for a drum.

$97.00? That's not bad...I pay $139.00 for my HP1300tn.

Tonerkits.com

Go to www.tonerkits.com and check out the price for their toner.
My husband refills mine all the time with their toner.

Thank you, my two computer geek friends...

The cartridge is in the recycle box. At least it's worth a ream of letter. I put an older refilled cartridge in it and it seems to be working fine. I purchased a new cartridge as well.

Talk about a "Doh" moment. As soon as I saw what the printer was producing, it dawned on me and sure enough, I grabbed the wrong toner.

I swear, I'd be lost without PAW and Andy. Thanks guys! Smile

Re: NO...NO...NO - Knowing Andy personally, I have

taken heed to his warning about not inhaling the toner.

This guy does not waste a dime...and he does his best not to let me waste a dime.

Given this set of facts, I am going to be more than careful with avoiding toner inhalation and start recommending using a mask over one's nose and mouth before refilling.
